Alexander Rud Mills Project

God the Nordics regarded as being too great for any man to wholly understand or wholly comprehend. But something of God they could in some measure understand, and that something they called Odin...

Rud Mills, 1957

About this Project

Alexander Rud Mills was one of the true pioneers of Odinism, not only in Australia but worldwide. Little research has been done on Mills' life and the events that led him to adopt the faith of Odinism. The Odinic Rite Australia has taken up this challenge, to explore the life and works of Rud Mills whom we embrace as one of our own.

Rud Mills, like many pathfinders, was a man of his era, and some of his attitudes may seem discordant today. But as a seeker of genuine wisdom, he was always willing to amend his views if and when further evidence came to hand.

The principle article developed through the Projects research, Brief Biography of Alexander Rud Mills, was completed in April 2006 (second edition May 2007). It was loosely developed from an article, Behind Barbed Wire, which appeared in the September 1995 (No. 2, Vol. 2) issue of Renewal.

This site will continue to gather information about Mills, his works and those who influenced and surrounded him.

Project Blog

As we are still currently undertaking research into the life and works of Rud Mills we have added a web blog of recent discoveries and additions to the site. The Blog will also accommodate queries raised by our reader where these have relevant information to add. >>>link to Blog

Rud Mills Honoured

In the Asatrú calendar of a US heathen organisation, Rud Mills is honoured on 4 July (Haymoon) being "Founder's Day in remembrance of Sveinbjorn Beinteinsson and A. Rud Mills".

In May 2005, a moot was held at Rud Mills' grave. It is hoped that this will be a recurring event on the closest suitable day to midwinter each year. >>>see photos

Rud Mills would have enjoyed these famous words, which were spoken over his grave by Australian Odinists in 2005:

Lo, there do I see my father; lo, there do I see my mother, my sisters and my brothers; lo, there do I see the line of my people, back to the beginning; lo, they do call to me; they bid me take my place among them in the halls of Valhalla, where the brave may live forever.

In 2006, a small group assembled at Rud's grave to once again honour his memory. Here is a group shot >>See photo

Angelcynn

In response to a recent suggestion that Mills either fabricated or invented the word Angelcynn, which he used in his Angelcynn Church of Odin, Andrew Ryan has prepared a short response. >>The origins of the word "Angelcynn"

Evelyn Mills née Price

Graham, a member of the Price family has provided some insight to his Aunt Evelyn, her relationship with Rud, and her involvement with the Angelcyn Church of Odin. >>Evelyn Mills née Price
