Spread your fingers evenly and cup your hand over the basketball. It's almost like you are trying to palm the basketball, however, the inside or top of your palm does not touch the basketball.
The only parts of your hand that touches the basketball are the rim of your palm, and the bases and seams of your fingers. Look at it this way, if you court the basketball with paint, and put your hand over the basketball, the only parts of your hand that will be stained by the paint are your fingers and a rim around your palm.
As you dribble the basketball:
Keep your upper body fairly steady with your knees flexed. Your position resembles a person sitting on a high bar stool.
Move your forearm up and down like a level anchored at the elbow, pushing the basketball down to the floor with a wrist snap before receive it, and pushing the basketball down again.
Imagine your hand acting like a mechanical suction cup. It releases the basketball as you push it down to the floor. You then lower your hand (cupped shape) toward the basketball rebounding from the floor, which suck it up. When the basketball touches your hand, raise your forearm slightly to absorb the rebounding pressure, then release and push the basketball to the floor again. Repeat the sequence over and over again until it becomes automatic where you can execute it without physically looking at the basketball.
In the advance stage of stationary dribbling, you will use your peripheral vision coupled with the dribbling sound to keep tub of the basketball location.
