The single most important thing one has to take in mind when approaching the task of building a web site is that of content. In our case, having used a computer at home in the last seven years content was plentiful.
This site is hosted by Geocities, a "free" web host. Geocities, which is now owned by Yahoo, generates its revenue by placing a small add on every page.
To build the site we use Microsoft Front Page
2000, a web authoring program. While being feature rich, the
program has some problems, consequently, we had to dig into
the HTML code fairly fast. Furthermore, the web
publishing wizard, the Microsoft Front Page 2000 module that
posts files from your PC to the web hosting server is not
reliable. We thus needed to use FTP to
transfer files from our PC to the web host. The FTP client we
chose was WS_FTP LE , a light and easy to use
freeware dedicated to non business users.
Having had to cut HTML we used Tidy, a cool and free utility that checks HTML.
To learn
how to use Front Page we read the book Special Edition
using Microsoft FrontPage 2000. The book gives a
comprehensive description of the program. It also describes
how to use it and how not. On every subject there is a
designer section where the limits of the product are
discussed.
Fairly
fast we realised that a certain scripting language is
needed to maintain the consistent look of all the pages in
our web. We had to choose between
VBScript and JavaScript. We thought that JavaScript
would work on more browsers so we have chosen it. This
O'reilly book has excellent description of the language as
well as a comprehensive reference manual. This book also
addresses the computability issues between Netscape an
Internet Explorer.
We found plenty of JavaScript
example in the Java Script Source, The JavaScript Source is an excellent
JavaScript resource with tons of "cut and paste" JavaScript examples
for your web pages. All for free!
We found the themes of Microsoft front page
hard to work with, we have decided to uses
cascading style sheet (CSS). Dave
Raggett's Introduction to CSS was very useful in
demystifying that subject.
Our guest
book was created with the html GEAR a web site
which gives you a free, fully functioning guest book in three minutes. Please do not forget to sign it!
To get the pictures
of the front pages of the books, we have joined the
amazon.com associates program. If you purchase a book by
following one of the links scattered in this web page, you
will support this site.

The photographs on the site were taken by us on a regular 35mm SLR. We used the services of our local photo shop to load them on CDs.
The moving images were taken from the animation
factory.
To publish the site on the net we recorded it on as many search engines as we could. So far it worked only on google.
By now you may have benefited from our Web site, so please sign our guest book.
