Hi hi !

Dreamz and Flying Machine, better known as "梦飞船 ",is made up of three guys namely Cavin, Jim and Ric. Why the name Dreamz and Flying Machine? Well, they were reportedly thinking of a group name at a cafe when they saw these words in a Bonny Hicks book. A few hours after that, they heard a song with the exact same lyrics down the street. Thus the decision.

The three already knew each other for quite some time before they went through "matrimonial alliance" under producer Ken Lim. Cavin was undergoing a university degree in a foreign university then and Jim and Ric were faithfully serving the country...hiak hiak...i.e. National Service in Singapore.

Jim and Ric used to sing at this music lounge in Singapore. Cavin joined them only much later. The responses were reportedly overwhelming judging by the "full-house" phenomena every week. Thus began the blood-vomiting production of their debut album- " Dreamz Fm" in 1999.

I first got to know Dreamz Fm when a friend told me to look out for the theme song of the Chinese serial," 富满人间", which was written by Jim and sung by Ann Kok. I guess the next best exposure was the National Day song with Evelyn Tan,"心连心".That was the point when many started noticing this acoustic band.

He is the " bass" sound of the trio...

First impression:

My favourite song from the debut album being "熬夜" sung by Cavin, his voice was the one that first enticed me to the group. His deep and slightly husky voice is also more distinguishable than the other two.

After that...

During stage performances, he is usually the " yellow jokes teller" and who's least bothered with the use of fluent Mandarin (what with their incessant banter of Hokkien, Cantonese, Malay, and Singlish...not that I mind actually...in fact, their localised lingo is really close to the heart ...hiak hiak...).

He put his acting skills to the test in a local Mandarin sitcom aired every Monday, "新新关系", where he acted as a chef of a bakery. Many who tuned in to the program knew him by his character's name, "Tony Soh" and his new found fame apparently caused him some undue "harassment" when he was taking his driving test. Drivers actually stopped and called him "Tony..." and the driving instructor keep joking about why he didn't bring any egg tarts with him...

The one with the "中性" voice...haha

First impression:

He's the one with the earring on the left ear.

Talented, talented, talented...to the point of disbelief... He started learning piano only at the age of 15. Yet, through his perseverance, he actually passed all 8 grades! His voice and Ric's are harder to differentiate at first. He has a sister, 林玉婷, a really good singer too...and the sibling supposedly grew up listening to rock music. His inspiration to actually wanting to go into Mandarin music is reportedly Taiwanese singer, Sky Wu.

After that...

Well, he proceeded to be my favourite of the three after I heard his " 不值得" in the second album. Written by the big guy himself, his soulful projection of the song bowled me over left, right, head and bottom... I loved the song so much that the first day I bought the album was attributed to listening to that single song repeatedly.

He is the youngest of the three, and in my opinion, a very energetic performer. He seems very practical and single-minded. My friend, also his ex-colleague in the music lounge , reflected that he is a really friendly and humble guy.

The tenor...ahhhhhhhhhhhh.......

First impression:

The one with " the voice". I mean, just look at how many guys can reach his key? The one who still wears spectacles most of the time... Reportedly the "Mac-expert" and the most IT savvy one.

After that...

Quiet offstage, he is usually seen with his handphone. Onstage, he can be really lively (esp. when his wife, 蔡礼莲, is around)...his favourite being sending the audience into stitches with his imitation of the Malay accent.." Abang....abang..." Very, very impressive vocal management, and I think he sounds really nice performing English songs.

He'll actually stand up and sing when "high"...

He is the second oldest. Now...don't tell me you still don't know who's the oldest one now?

Plus,

All of them are suckers for "manga" i.e.. comics...
