PAGANIZER - Deadbanger [CD/1999]
PAGANIZER - Promoting Total Death [DVD99/2001] 7/10=May not be as good as some of their more recent albums, but they were dedicated to decent oldschool death even then.
PAGANIZER - Dead Unburied [CD/2002] 9/10=Paganizer rules, dirty ass Swedish death metal, grinds your socks into shreds and your cock into strips. Abso fucking killer lutely.
PAGANIZER - Murder Death Kill [CD/2003] 8/10=Seriously excellent fucking band here...it's 1990 and Left Hand Path all over again.
PAGANIZER - No Divine Rapture [CD/2004] 8/10=Paganizer rock my socks, pure Swedish grinding death oldschool reminiscent of Grave, Nihilist, Dismember, and other recent 'retro' bands like Bloodbath and Nominon.
PAGANIZER - Born to Be Buried Alive [DVD140/2008] 4/5=Hot new EP, total oldschool Swede worship.
PAGAN'S MIND - Infinity Divine [CD/2000] 7/10=It's a pretty damn good prog/power metal album when you get used to the vocals, but he uses a very early 80s Metal Blade tone so it's all good.
PAGAN'S MIND - Celestial Entrance [CD/2002] 9/10=There is so much to say here, a ton of fucking work was put into these compositions and you can tell, one of the finest prog metal records in recent years, solid as all hell.
PAGAN'S MIND - Enigmatic Calling [CD/2005] 10/10=This is fucking phenomenal, I haven't heard such excellent songwriting in this genre in how fucking long? Fuck Queensryche: THIS IS THE NEW OPERATION MINDCRIME!
PAGAN'S MIND - God's Equation [CD/2007] 9/10=It would have been a tall order to match Enigmatic Calling, and honestly they have come pretty close here, though it doesn't those few songs which completely blew me away.
PARADISE LOST - Drown in Darkness [CD/1988] 1/10=Would have enjoyed the early death metal on this if the sound quality didn't make me want to throw it through a wall.
PARADISE LOST - Frozen Illusion [CD/1989] 3/10=A pretty damned evil, doomy, and depressing demo, the sound quality still blows goat but this is some damn good music.
PARADISE LOST - Lost Paradise [CD/1990] 7/10=Their heaviest release, very somber death/doom with those Paradise Lost melodies already in position.
PARADISE LOST - Gothic [CD/1991] 9/10=This was just such a mighty album when it came out, there are a lot more gothic elements to this, some orchestration, but still heavy as fuck.
PARADISE LOST - Shades of God [CD/1992] 5/10=To this day I have never counted this as more than average, it shows the more Metallica vocals and the transition to the much better Icon.
PARADISE LOST - As I Die [CD/1992] 1/10=A filthy waste of time, a song from Shades of God and some other bullshit.
PARADISE LOST - Icon [CD/1993] 10/10=I absolutely love this album...somber, depressing, melodic, and perfect in every way, they have made their transition and it works, even with the Hetfield vocals.
PARADISE LOST - Draconian Times [CD/1995] 8/10=I docked this two points because it's the same album as Icon with a few mildly different melodies. Still very good stuff.
PARADISE LOST - One Second [CD/1997] 7/10=They continue to get even more mainstream and accessible, but they don't sacrifice what really counts...good music.
PARADISE LOST - Host [CD/1999] 6/10=This is a fairly blah album at first, gets better with multiple listens.
PARADISE LOST - Believe in Nothing [CD/2001] 6/10=Another decent album but nothing special, they wouldn't perfect this leg of their career until...
PARADISE LOST - Symbol of Life [CD/2002] 10/10=I loved this one too...it's commercial goth rock but has a lot of influence from their earlier work. I must have spun this disc hundreds of times, and it only recently left my regular rotation.
PARADISE LOST - Paradise Lost [CD/2005] 9/10=Another near spotless album from this ever underrated UK band, and I am overjoyed...similar somewhat to Symbol of Life, they are easily the top of this goth/pop/metal genre.
PARADISE LOST - B-Sides and Rarities [CD/2006] 7/10=Quite a nice collection, it gathers over two discs a bunch of material we couldn't have before without dropping lots of money on bullshit imports and singles.
PARADISE LOST - The Enemey [DVD26/2007] 3/3=A new single, the title track is alright but the other tunes "Godless" and "Lost Beneath Black Skies" are far better, psyched for new album.
PARADISE LOST - In Requiem [CD/2007] 9/10=Paradise Lost have concocted yet another winner, no other band is like this, great somber melodies, unforgettable tunes, conviction and emotion.
PARADISE LOST - The Anatomy of Melancholy [DVD127/2008] 3/5=A double live album from Paradise Lost, some of the vocals sound a little off.
PARADOX - Product of Imagination [CD/1987] 6/10=This wasn't as hot as their followup album Heresy, but it's good enough to spin a few times...progressive German thrash, best band to ever wear the mantle of Paradox.
PARADOX - Heresy [CD/1989] 8/10=I wouldn't place them among the legends of German thrash, their vocals are similar to Deathrow but not as shrill, but this album was pretty amazing though and a definite winner.
PARADOX - Collision Course [CD/2000] 8/10=11 years later and we got a followup to Heresy, and stylistically it stays well within the bounds of that album. A real nice 'comeback' record, I hope there will be some more.
PARADOX - Electrify [CD/2008] 9/10=Un-fucking-believable...not only a total killer of a comeback album but probably the best Paradox album ever...holy fuck...last year Mekong Delta, now Paradox...
PESTILENCE - Malleus Maleficarum [CD/1988] 9/10=Classic Dutch death/thrash album, this band ruled with Martin Van Drunen. One of the best.
PESTILENCE - Consuming Impulse [CD/1989] 10/10=My favorite death metal album ever...every song perfection. I can listen to this today and enjoy it just like I did when I got the cassette at the old Methuen Mall the day it came out.
PESTILENCE - Testimony of the Ancients [CD/1991] 7/10=Still good, but I didn't really like how they broke up the songs with all the little instrumental bits. The songs are still pretty good, just as a whole it's not as impressive.
PESTILENCE - Spheres [CD/1993] 6/10=Some people really hated this, it's very jazzy and has a lot of synth guitar. I don't really think the production made this effective, but it's still got some good songs and it's quite interesting.
PESTILENCE - Chronicles of the Scourge [CDx2/2006] 2/10=Two live sets from long ago that sound like shit and are not worthy of having been committed to CD, and one bonus track. A disappointing package to say the least.
PET SHOP BOYS - Please [CD/1986] 7/10=Right from the start, the PSB were destined to be one of the most memorable and gay pop acts of the 1980s, this has some filler tracks but some timeless cuts like 'Suburbia'.
PET SHOP BOYS - Behavior [CD/1990]
PET SHOP BOYS - Actually [CD/1990] 7/10=Another album with some great moments and hit singles, 'It's a Sin' being one of my favorite PSB tunes.
PET SHOP BOYS - Discography [CD/1991] 5/10=I don't like compilations of previously released material, but this has all that and then some, and you could just buy this and skip the last few LPs, it has most of the best material.
PET SHOP BOYS - Very [CD/1993] 9/10=Overall my favorite album by the PSB, this one is almost entirely perfect, with commanding pop tunes like 'The Theater', 'Dreaming of the Queen', etc. Excellent.
PET SHOP BOYS - Alternative [CDx2/1995] 5/10=It's great because it is two discs of unreleased material, basically, but it's not great because you can tell why many of these songs just didn't make the cut to be on the albums.
PET SHOP BOYS - Bilingual [CD/1996] 7/10=The PSB are never perfect, they always have a few filler tracks, but their albums are always very good synth wave pop, and few have ever done this style better than they.
PET SHOP BOYS - Nightlife [CD/1999] 8/10=There is still life in these guys, their sound is starting to modernize but if you can't enjoy tunes like 'Vampires' and 'Closer to Heaven', well, you're not genderbalanced?!?
PET SHOP BOYS - Release [CD/2002] 5/10=Solid pop craft once more, but there really aren't any songs on here that are remotely memorable. I was disappointed by this, thought it was supposed to be some kind of solid comback effort.
PET SHOP BOYS - Disco 3 [CD/2003] 6/10=A few new tunes and a few remixes, and overall I did enjoy this little album. If there are a disco 1 and 2 I might track them down.
PET SHOP BOYS - Fundamental [CD/2006] 8/10=Vastly better than Release, this returns to the appeal of what made albums like Very and Nightlife great.
PHARAOH - After the Fire [CD/2003] 8/10=Great debut of melodic heavy metal, catchy tracks with their roots in all the greats, from the NWOBHM of Iron Maiden to the mid-80s melodic chargers.
PHARAOH - The Longest Night [CD/2006] 7/10=Sophomore from this American 'true metal' band, a decent collaboration from some former 'zine editors and Tim Aylmar (Control Denied). Fans of bands like Tad Morose will love it.
PHARAOH - Be Gone [CD/2008] 9/10=Simply a fantastic effort, excellent melodic American speed/power metal with a classic feel to it. Memorable tunes, great vocal performance, probably Aylmar's best.
PHAZM - Hate at First Seed [CD/2004] 9/10=Brilliant, crushing French death/doom/rock, always interesting, and with quite a concept...vegetation turning into people and destroying humanity. Like I said, brilliant.
PHAZM - Antebellum Death'n'Roll [CD/2006] 8/10=Overall I preferred the first album, this seems to have dropped the trees vs. man motif and I thought that was amazing. Still, musically this doth deliver.
PHAZM - Cornerstone of the Macabre [CD/2008] 8/10=Phazm continue their rampage of hybrized death, black and doom metal with some rock'n'roll groove. This is yet another intriguing album from the French band.
PINK FLOYD - The Piper at the Gates of Dawn [DVD58/1967] 9/10=Killer psychedelic debut, pretty much unrivaled for its time, way way out there.
PINK FLOYD - A Saucerful of Secrets [DVD58/1968] 10/10=Stupefyingly excellent, trippy rock record, catchy and cerebral...
PINK FLOYD - Ummagumma [DVD58/1969] 10/10=An unbelievable trip, possibly their most psychedelic album, amazing.
PINK FLOYD - Atom Heart Mother [DVD58/1970] 8/10=I had read that the band itself hates this one, but it's actually quite good, not as trippy as the past two records though.
PINK FLOYD - Meddle [DVD58/1971] 7/10=I love "One of these Days" and the epic "Echoes", otherwise it's not my favorite Pink Floyd album.
PINK FLOYD - Obscured by Clouds [DVD58/1972] 10/10=Brilliant album, one of the best of the early 'accessible' Floyd records.
PINK FLOYD - The Dark Side of the Moon [DVD58/1973] 10/10=What can I say that hasn't already been said?
PINK FLOYD - Wish You Were Here [DVD58/1975] 10/10=Fucking sick, this 1972-1975 period of Floyd was arguably the greatest period for a band, ever. I was like one year old when this dropped.
PINK FLOYD - Animals [DVD58/1977] 9/10=What an insane concept album...another unforgettable piece of music from Pink Floyd.
PINK FLOYD - The Wall [DVD58/1979] 10/10=But you already knew that.
PINK FLOYD - The Final Cut [DVD58/1983] 7/10=Not a favorite of mine but still damned interesting.
PINK FLOYD - A Momentary Lapse of Reason [DVD58/1987] 8/10=The best of their 80s records.
PINK FLOYD - Delicate Sound of Thunder [DVD58/1988] 4/5=Double live album.
PINK FLOYD - The Division Bell [DVD/1994] 7/10=The most modern sounding Floyd album, most modern production, etc, sounds good but nowhere near the tune writing of the past.
PORTISHEAD - Dummy [CD/1994] 8/10=Excellent depressing jazzy trip hop, only problem is it can get boring after a bunch of spins.
PORTISHEAD - Portishead [CD/1997] 9/10=Better than the first album, and has more replay value. I love the production.
PORTISHEAD - Third [CD/2008] 9/10=It may have taken over a decade, but it was worth it. This is their deepest album yet, slightly more complex than its predecessors, but still in line with their style. Killer.
POSSESSED - Seven Churches [CD/1985] 8/10=An extremely dirty, influential thrash/death prototype band, this album is far from perfect but worth the credit they get in helping create the death metal genre.
POSSESSED - Beyond the Gates/Eyes of Horror [CD/1986-87] 8/10=Second album with their EP tacked on, and to be truthful, I differ from most in that I enjoy the Eyes of Horror EP most out of their material. I know, I'm hopeless.
POSTHUMOUS BLASPHEMER - Avantground Undergrind [DVD37/2003] 8/10=Awesome death metal from Belarus, extremely brutal but kept my attention throughout.
POSTHUMOUS BLASPHEMER - Putrespermfaction vs. Fertiholyzation [DVD44/2004] 8/10=Jesus fucking punishing Christ, this is sicker than fuck.
POSTHUMOUS BLASPHEMER - Crucified Humiliation [DVD37/2005] 8/10=Completely fucking sick Belarussan death metal, how the fuck do people play some of this shit...the drummer is nuts.
POWERWOLF - Return in Bloodred [CD/2005] 8/10=Don't be fooled by their goofy makeup, this mixed-European metal band plays a unique and excellent brand of mid-paced power metal that conjures up a lot of classy 80s metal.
POWERWOLF - Lupus Dei [CD/2007] 9/10=Fucking awesome followup! Less Ozzy-like vox here but the music and compositions are even better.
PREVALENT RESISTANCE - Dynamics of Creation [DVD57/2005] 8/10=Killer debut of Finnish driving black metal, filthy and gut punching, for fans of Horna, Barathrum, and Satanic Warmaster. Great.
PREVALENT RESISTANCE - To Live Again and Dominate [CD/2007] 9/10=More of the same...only BETTER...totally killer Finnish black record.
PREY FOR NOTHING - Violence Divine [CD/2008] 9/10=Completely asskicking Israeli death metal, with a melodic death edge to it. Who would have guessed?
PRIMAL FEAR - Primal Fear [CD/1998] 7/10=The best Judas Priest since Judas Priest, entirely derivative but totally rocking.
PRIMAL FEAR - Jaws of Death [CD/1999] 7/10=Another rocking Priest worship affair.
PRIMAL FEAR - Horrorscope [CD/2001] 5/10=This is an EP but at least the disc is shaped like the Primal Fear metal eagle, and has decent non-album material.
PRIMAL FEAR - Nuclear Fire [CD/2001] 7/10=Album number three is as solid as the first two.
PRIMAL FEAR - Black Sun [CD/2002] 9/10=My personal favorite by this band, they actually seem to have a sound here that is their own, rather than 100% Priest cloning.
PRIMAL FEAR - Devil's Ground [CD/2004] 7/10=This isn't bad at all, but by this point its getting derivative and I'm hoping they will branch out on their next effort.
PRIMAL FEAR - Seven Seals [CD/2005] 9/10=Another awesome Primal Fear record, wall to wall with amazing songs and does in fact branch out a little like I had said they needed to do after the last album. Wonderful.
PRIMAL FEAR - New Religion [CD/2007] 9/10=It's a bit poppier, more atmospheric, but it's still pure Primal Fear, with a batch of excellent, unforgettable tunes.
PRIMORDIAL - Imrama [CD/1995] 7/10=Ahh...the Irish folk/black metal legions have arrived, it was only a matter of time...there is some pretty good shit on this album though, I must admit, it's a diverse and interesting listen.
PRIMORDIAL - A Journey's End [CD/1998] 8/10=An excellent sophomore album from Ireland's best metal band, hands down.
PRIMORDIAL - The Burning Season [CD/1999]
PRIMORDIAL - Spirit the Earth Aflame [CD/2000] 8/10=Their 3rd full length album, and quite a bit mellowed out, I'd describe this as melodic folk black/doom with tortured clean vocals, and I'd also describe is as damn good.
PRIMORDIAL - Storm Before Calm [CD/2002] 9/10=Back to more of the black vocals, this is possibly the greatest Irish black metal album ever conceived, quite enjoyable and just as interesting as past releases.
PRIMORDIAL - The Gathering Wilderness [CD/2005] 7/10=While I found myself enjoying this record, it is more of a melodic, epic slow-paced doom excursion, but with their patented black & clean vocals.
PRIMORDIAL - To the Nameless Dead [CD/2007] 9/10=A fucking killer of an album, I liked this just as much as their Storm Before Calm, probably he best of the Irish folk metal bands.
PROFUNDI - The Omega Rising [CD/2006] 9/10=Jens Ryden's new project. This is like getting a new Dead Silent Slumber album if the project was renamed Profundi, and this is a far BETTER record. Excellent hi-fi black metal.
PRONG - Primitive Origins [CD/1987] 5/10= This isn't bad, but this is a band that will get much better.
PRONG - Force Fed [CD/1987] 9/10=I still find this album amazing today, as raw as it sounds, it was so damned different and original when it came out.
PRONG - Beg to Differ [CD/1990] 7/10=Very polished and produced, still extremely original, perhaps the clean production just doesn't hold up today.
PRONG - Prove You Wrong [CD/1991] 6/10=An odd Prong album, some great songs and some terrible ones, back to a more raw production.
PRONG - Whose Fist Is This Anyway? [CD/1992] 1/10=Remixes and other crap, worthless piece of shit.
PRONG - Cleansing [CD/1994] 7/10=A very nuevo thrash album with an almost industrial sheen and a lot of depth, pretty damn good.
PRONG - Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck [CD/1994] 2/10=I'm tired of crappy novelty EPs, and don't know what I ever saw in them.
PRONG - Rude Awakening [CD/1996] 8/10=I loved it, had some really great sludgy songs, this one was truly melodic 'sewer' metal.
PRONG - 100% Live [CD/2002] 1/10=Thanks for the assfucking, hope you call again.
PRONG - Scorpio Rising [CD/2003] 6/10=Not bad for a comeback, but not very ambitious either.
PRONG - Power of the Damager [DVD71/2007] 7/10=It continuously improves throughout the playlength, and it's better overall than the last record.
PROTECTOR - Misanthropy [DVD39/1987] 5/5=Their debut EP and probably their best overall release, fucking excellent German thrash metal ala Kreator, Sodom and Destruction.
PROTECTOR - Golem/Leviathan's Desire [CD/1988/90] 6/10=Excellent German thrash metal when it wants, somewhat generic when it doesn't. Kind of like Destruction with vocals more in the death metal range.
PROTECTOR - Urm the Mad [CD/1989] 7/10=Very simple thrash, but there is just something about it I enjoy, has this very bleak, post-apocalyptic tone to the production and I enjoy the fairly one-track rifing style.
PROTECTOR - A Shedding of Skin [CD/1991] 8/10=This is my favorite Protector album, very aggressive and has an excellent production, one of the better thrash/death crossover albums of the early 90s.
PROTECTOR - The Heritage [CD/1994] 8/10=Every bit as great as the last record, this band went out with a fiery bang, as this is tight, energetic, hectic thrashing death. Completely underrated band.
PSEUDO ECHO - Love an Adventure [CD/1987] 8/10=A classic Australian synth pop record straight out of the 80s, I loved this back in the days I dressed like Don Johnson and actually had hair.
PSYCROPTIC - The Isle of Disenchantment [CD/2001] 6/10=Brutal Australian death metal, with obvious influences ala Cannibal Corpse and Suffocation, still they brew some riffs and will toss a curve ball every so often to keep the listener intent.
PSYCROPTIC - The Scepter of the Ancients [CD/2003] 7/10=Not a lot different than their last album, but the songs are stronger and the riffs are cool for the most part, a good death metal album in a rather empty death metal year.
PSYCROPTIC - Symbols of Failure [CD/2006] 8/10=The vocals grate on me a bit and the production is a bit dry, but the drums and guitar riffing are both great and I've been enjoying this album despite those minimal flaws.
PSYCROPTIC - Ob(Servant) [CD/2008] 8/10=Another smoker of an album, technical punchy and almost always exhilirating.
PYRAMAZE - Melancholy Beast [CD/2004] 8/10=So I just went back to check this out, and what was I thinking? This is also an extremely good album, one of the better bands in the recent prog/power outcropping.
PYRAMAZE - Legend of the Bone Carver [CD/2006] 8/10=I remember not enjoying the previous album very much and getting ridding of it, but this one is quite excellent, not unlike recent Pagans Mind, but has its own sound too.
PYRAMAZE - Immortal [CD/2008] 8/10=Once again, Pyramaze has impressed me with a tight album of catchy melodic metal with its own identity.
