Music T
Peace Through Tyranny
TAAKE - Koldbrann I Jesu Marg [CD/1995] 4/10=Another little demo CD, this one about 13 minutes long with 3 tracks, but this is some pretty good, raspy, evil shit and I did enjoy it.
TAAKE - Manndaudsvinter [CD/1995] 2/10=A fourth demo, this again has only two tracks and it sounds like complete fucking shit, despite that the songs would have been pretty good.
TAAKE - Nattestid Ser Porten Vid [CD/1999] 7/10=Glorious black metal, I'm guessing this is a viking theme here but I'm too lazy right now to look it up, a good album that surpasses their newer material.
TAAKE - Over Bjoergvin Graater Hiimerik [CD/2002] 9/10=Their second full-length and cleary the best they've ever done. Perfect, crisp, cutting production and pure hatred interspersed with creepy keys. And excellent songwriting...
TAAKE/AMOK - Sadistic Attack/Nordens Doedsengel [CD/2004] 4/10=For their contribution, Taake re-issue a crappy sounding demo as well as a film cover song. Amok offer some unique, sporadic garage black metal, and get 4 points.
TAAKE - Helnorsk Svartmetall [CD/2004] 4/5=You knew what you were in for...intense Norwegian black metal with sub-par but preferable production value. This is a compilation by the way, not a new album.
TAAKE - ...Doedskvad [CD/2005] 9/10=Overall, I prefer their last full-length, but this is also a mighty album and worth owning for any fan of true black metal, unfettered by trend and just oozing raw hatred.
TAAKE - Nekro [CD/2007] 4/5=Grim new EP with three tracks from the blackened heart of this savage man.
TAAKE - Svartekunst [DVD118/2008] 4/5=Live EP, the sound is perfect for this type of band in a live setting, nice evil vibe here.
TANKARD - Zombie Attack [CD/1986] 10/10=Greatest band in the world. Alcoholic German thrash metal.
TANKARD - Chemical Invasion [CD/1987] 10/10=Greatest band in the world. Alcoholic German thrash metal. Rinse. Repeat.
TANKARD - The Morning After [CD/1988] 10/10=You're getting tired of me saying the same thing, so let me just say this is alcoholic metal to cause trouble with, and the least pretentious band ever.
TANKARD - Alien [LP/1989] 5/10=I've got the vinyl for this, not bad, nice little collector's album.
TANKARD - The Meaning of Life [CD/1990] 8/10=A more focused Tankard, with some incredibly bad lyrics, but I look past that because they are fucking drunk probably when they write them. Not their best by a longshot.
TANKARD - Stone Cold Sober [CD/1992] 8/10=Riff after riff of pure insanity, they may not have that unstoppable energy as the first few albums, but they still kick your ass any day.
TANKARD - Two-Faced [CD/1993] 6/10=Even the greatest band in the world has a bad day here and there, this album was one of Tankard's bad days, but it's still midly entertaining, and essential for the complete Tankard experience.
TANKARD - The Tankard [CD/1995] 7/10=It's better than the albums sandwiching it, but still not up to par with the legends of Tankard's past.
TANKARD - Disco Destroyer [CD/1998] 6/10=Wow, what an album title. I wish I had thought of that, although I do have a soft spot for some disco. Another of the very worst of Tankard albums, which is still good.
TANKARD - Kings of Beer [CD/2000] 8/10=The beginning of a true return to form for Tankard, LOVE THE FUCKING COVER to this album. Fuck poseurs and anyone who does not drink the occasional beer. Who am I kidding. I'm gay and a wino.
TANKARD - 20th Anniversary B-day [CDx2/2002] 9/10=Yeaaah boy, get the fucking keg you fuck, TANKARD HATH RETURNED! RECTIFIER! RECTIFIER! Someone get me a fucking neckbrace. 'Ugly, Fat, and STILL ALIVE!' Best song EVER MADE!
TANKARD - Beast of Bourbon [CD/2004] 9/10=Another sick new Tankard record, gawds, sometimes life is good. Sometimes it is GREAT. So many good songs here, like 'The Horde' and 'Alien Revenge'.
TANKARD - Beauty and the Beer [CD/2006] 9/10=Dunno what it is, but this band simply cannot fucking fail me...
TANKARD - Schwarz-Wie Wie Schnee [DVD129/2006] 2/5=It's an EP with some live and demo clips, video clips, and a few anthms in German.
TANKARD - Best Case Scenario: 25 Years In Beers [DVD78/2007] 1/5=Why bother with a compilation when you can just track down all their fantastic albums for yourself? Skip it and get the real deals. All of them.
TAROT - Spell of Iron [CD/1987] 8/10=I once thought this was the Finnish answer to Iron Maiden, but the singer here has a pretty shaky vocal style of his own, and I'd be lying if I didn't admit this was an excellent for its day.
TAROT - Follow Me Into Madness [CD/1988] 8/10=Another great Finnish 80s metal album, at this point I really can't compare them to anyone else, their riffs and solos are interesting and the singer pretty original, killer stuff again.
TAROT - To Live Forever [CD/1993] 7/10=The synths and songwriting here certainly possess a more progressive slant than their first two albums, but I didn't enjoy it quite as much, still very good.
TAROT - Stigmata [CDx2/1995] 8/10=One of the most consistent bands in metal, this is just another reason why...a great mixture of hard rock and metal, with a boatload of great riffing, this album is quite good.
TAROT - Shining Black: The Best of... [CD/2003] 2/10=Heh...well, what can I say, another compilation of a band's career, good song selection but who fucking cares stick to their albums.
TAROT - For the Glory of Nothing [CD/1998] 8/10=Now that they're modernizing, they have a much more crushing sound, still a classic metal appeal infused with subtle progressive touches, and still one smoking fucking band.
TAROT - Suffer Our Pleasures [CD/2003] 8/10=They've gone 17 years with only one lineup change...this is one hell of a tight band and they still deliver the goods, and in fact, this time they REALLY deliver.
TAROT - Undead Son [CD/2003] 1/10=Hmm...one song from Suffer Our Pleasures and one really lame ass track called 'Mama', one point.
TAROT - Crows Fly Black [CD/2006] 7/10=It's not as good as the past few albums, but it's good, and it's cool that they are still making them.
TEMNOZOR - Sorcery is Strengthening the Black Glory of Rus [CD/1998] 6/10=The debut album by this Russian folk/black metal band, with a fairly diverse approach. The sound is very thin here but you can hear their potential.
TEMNOZOR - Fragments [CD/2001] 8/10=It's an album length demo, and an amazing one. In fact this is my favorite Temnozor thus far.
TEMNOZOR - Horizons [CD/2003] 7/10=I enjoyed this record, it's Slavic folk metal with an anti-Christian (and yes, NSBM) stance. That has obviously never stopped me before, and there is a certain majesty at work here.
TEMNOZOR - Folkstorm of the Azure Nights [CD/2005] 7/10=Another entertaining bout of Slavic black folk insanity, would say it's right on the level of Horizons.
TENOCHTITLAN - Epoch of the Fifth Sun [DVD44/2005] 9/10=Great debut from this project of Lefthander and Senmuth, ethnic, mythological Central American mythos metal...very cool concept, imo this is their best album.
TENOCHTITLAN - Teokalli [CD/2006]
TENOCHTITLAN - Chac Och-Ut [DVD44/2006] 9/10=This is amazing, I liked it almost as much Epoch, just off by a little bit. These men and their projects rule.
TENOCHTITLAN - Tezcatl [DVD39/2007] 8/10=Third album from this Russian-Aztec mystical ethnic metal collaboration between Senmuth, Lefthander of RaXa, and some others. Fascinating as usual.
TERROR 2000 - Slaughterhouse Supremacy [CD/2000] 6/10=An all star band from Soilwork, Darkane etc. trying their and at more straightforward thrash metal...often very exciting, and well-played, just not as memorable as the real classics.
TERROR 2000 - Faster Disaster [CD/2002] 9/10=This is just insane, hyper frenetic Swedish thrash, Speed and Klas Ideberg are pretty much at their peak. Songs like 'I'm Speed at Night' are simply unforgettable thrash.
TERROR 2000 - Terror for Sale [CD/2005] 7/10=Musically this is incredible hyper Swedish thrash, but some of the lyrics and song titles are totally gay. 'Dishwasher Demon', 'Metal Mosh Massacre'? Don't spoil the music, dick.
TESTAMENT - The Legacy [CD/1987] 8/10: Classic Bay Area thrash album, perhaps THE essential Bay Area classic thrash album.
TESTAMENT - The New Order [CD/1988] 8/10: Another great album, maintaining their unique Bay Area sound.
TESTAMENT - Practice What You Preach [CD/1989] 8/10: Yet another great album.
TESTAMENT - Souls of Black [CD/1990] 6/10: They've weakened a bit here, primarily in the production department, there are still some great songs.
TESTAMENT - The Ritual [CD/1992] 9/10: Actually, if I had to choose, this one is my fave Testament album, I really like the washed out sound they went with here.
TESTAMENT - Low [CD/1994] 7/10: A much heavier Testament, but it's still pretty damn good.
TESTAMENT - Live at the Fillmore [CD/1995] 3/10: Not the worst live album ever, but still a live album with a bunch of shit you already own.
TESTAMENT - Demonic [CD/1997] 6/10: Another of their heavier records, unfortunately there are only a few catchy songs here, the rest is quite forgettable.
TESTAMENT - The Gathering [CD/1999] 6/10: Some praised this as their comeback album, it's okay but not as good as everyone thought.
TESTAMENT - First Strike Still Deadly [CD/2001] 6/10=Not bad, some re-recorded tracks that sound good and the Exodus singer doing a few tracks with the band, which I also enjoyed.
TESTAMENT - The Formation of Damnation [CD/2008] 9/10=It's a great fucking album, it's extremely fucking consistent and sounds like a series of 'highlights' of their career. Alex Skolnick returns!
THE 3RD AND THE MORTAL - Sorrow [CD/1994] 5/10=Interesting to note that they started off with a rather doom metallic sound, before their remarkable evolution. They weren't bad at the doom...this is a 4-track EP.
THE 3RD AND THE MORTAL - Tears Laid in Earth [CD/1994] 6/10=The first album where they really broke into the art rock mold, though this is sad, melancholic stuff with some folk elements and lots of sad guitar melodies.
THE 3RD AND THE MORTAL - Nightswan [CD/1995] 5/10=They haven't lost that heaviness yet, they had a few doomy parts on the first full-length and you'll also find a bit of that here, another 4-track EP.
THE 3RD AND THE MORTAL - Painting on Glass [CD/1996] 8/10=Still doom! This is an excellent record, much better than anything up to this point. Love that first track, and more than enjoyed the rest. Perhaps their best work.
THE 3RD AND THE MORTAL - In This Room [CD/1997] 8/10=My first exposure to this legendary band, I'm being honest. Swirling, dark goth-pop with excellent female vocals, NEVER forced or fairy, and very interesting music as well.
THE 3RD AND THE MORTAL - Memoirs [CD/2002] 8/10=Another excellent album, with a more pronounced element of trip hop and other modern formats, but it works extremely well with the sorrow-filled background.
THE CURE - Boys Don't Cry [CD/1979] 5/10=Really, really not that great. This is one overrated cult album, they hadn't fully matured to their soundyet.
THE CURE - Seventeen Seconds [CD/1980] 6/10=A little better, the true Cure sound that they'd maintain for decades is in evidence on this.
THE CURE - Faith [CD/1981] 6/10=A few decent tracks, the rest can get a bit boring.
THE CURE - Japanese Whispers [CD/1982] 8/10=Really oldschool sounding but I loved it just the same, this was a hard one to acquire.
THE CURE - Pornography [CD/1982] 7/10=A pretty good album, if I'm not mistaken 'The Hanging Garden' and some other good ones are here.
THE CURE - The Top [CD/1984] 6/10=Another rarity, but aside from a few decent songs it kind of blows.
THE CURE - The Head on the Door [CD/1985] 6/10=The last sort of mediocre record before a nice winning streak.
THE CURE - Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me [CD/1987] 9/10=Excellent, one of their strongest albums with a bunch of goodies on there. A lot of their big hits hailed from this album, or at least, memorable songs.
THE CURE - Disintegration [CD/1989] 9/10=I'd score this perfect except that after a few thousand listens, the songs wear on me a little.
THE CURE - All Mixed Up [CD/1990] 7/10=Had some nice mixes, unfortunately they are just that...remixes primarily of songs already on other albums. I like 'the Forest' remake the best.
THE CURE - Wish [CD/1992] 7/10=A good album, yeah I know many people think 'Friday I'm In Love' is queer, and it is, happy-queer. But the album is still pretty good.
THE CURE - Wild Mood Swings [CD/1996] 6/10=Eh, it sounds GREAT, but there aren't too many songs on here that I found memorable at all.
THE CURE - Bloodflowers [CD/2000] 7/10=A nice enough comeback after a few years, there were some pretty epic songs on here, though it is boring when you aren't in the right mind for it.
THE CURE - Join the Dots [CDx4/2004] 5/10=As nice a compilation as they make, four discs and TONs of unreleased material, you cannot go wrong here if you are a Cure fan, some of the rarities are pretty sweet.
THE CURE - The Cure [CD/2004] 6/10=I'm still trying to break into this one but it's pretty weak, not a lot of interesting material, after a few spins I find it hard to go back.
THE GATHERING - Always... [CD/1992]
THE GATHERING - Almost a Dance [CD/1994]
THE GATHERING - Mandylion [CD/1995] 8/10=This was a simple album, so influential it hurts. The Gathering was doing this shit before most of the goth/female fronted/metal bands today. Good songs here.
THE GATHERING - Nighttime Birds [CD/1997] 6/10=First foray into the art rock universe they wanted to explore, not bad, only problem is it can tend to be a little boring.
THE GATHERING - Liberty Bell [CD/1998] 0/10=Worthless single. One track from How To Measure a Planet? One track from Nighttime Birds. One live song. Fuck yeah.
THE GATHERING - Amity [CD/2000] 5/10=Six versions of the track 'Amity', one track unique to this EP.
THE GATHERING - Rollercoaster [CD/2000] 3/10=Radio version of 'Rollercoaster' from If_then_else. One track unique to this EP. 'Leaves' from Mandylion live with an orchestra. And a CD-R videoclip. Oh boy.
THE GATHERING - If_then_else [CD/2000] 6/10=This album is still pretty rockish, but of the art kind.
THE GATHERING - Superheat [CD/2000] 4/10=Live shit you already have, but well recorded.
THE GATHERING - Black Light District [CD/2002] 5/10=Pretty sweet little EP with some nice, abstract Gathering tunes on it. Love their style, as trippy as it has gotten I've stuck with them.
THE GATHERING - Souvenirs [CD/2003] 7/10=The Gathering have entered space, and I am drifting right alongside them.
THE GATHERING - Monsters [CD/2003] 3/10=Five mixes of the song 'Monsters'. I would think this band had the integrity to be above and beyond all these fucking singles.
THE GATHERING - Sleepy Buildings [CD/2004] 5/10=Pretty cool live album, a lot of mellow, soft stuff here, but that doesn't bother me.
THE GATHERING - Accessories: Rarities and B-sides [CD/2005] 5/10=A fan package, live tracks, orchestra versions, cover songs, and some previously unreleased tunes and demo recordings. If you are a Gathering completist, get it.
THE GATHERING - Home [CD/2006] 9/10=A fantastic return to form that isn't a return to form...this is probably the best album since How to Measure a Planet? if not better than that...great art girl rock here.
THE LORD WEIRD SLOUGH FEG - The Lord Weird Slough Feg [CD/1996] 9/10=A fantastic debut album from one of the best American metal bands to emerge in the 90s, if not THE best. Great, unique metal hybrid of doom and power metal.
THE LORD WEIRD SLOUGH FEG - Twilight of the Idols [CD/1999] 7/10=I think this is the record where the Celtic and Scottish folk elements came further into play, I didn't enjoy this as much as the debut album but it's damned solid.
THE LORD WEIRD SLOUGH FEG - Down Among the Deadmen [CD/2000] 9/10=Another superb record from this California band, their approach is so unique yet culls a real classic 80s metal flair, this one is just as good as the debut.
THE LORD WEIRD SLOUGH FEG - Traveller [CD/2003] 8/10=A cool US heavy metal band mixing Celtic mythology, quirky and introspective sci-fi lyrics, and a great retro metal flair that still carries a unique presence of its own.
THE LORD WEIRD SLOUGH FEG - Atavism [CD/2005] 8/10=Not sure how they keep doing it, but Slough Feg constantly entertains me, they remain among the American elite for the past decade, with great songwriting.
THE LORD WEIRD SLOUGH FEG - Hardworlder [CD/2007] 9/10=Their best album since the turn of the century.
THE MARS VOLTA - De-Loused in the Comatorium [CD/2003] 8/10=This is a wonderful album of unique funk/world/rock/jam music...I am looking forward to great things from this band if they can stick it out.
THE MARS VOLTA - Frances the Mute [CD/2005] 9/10=The Mars Volta is THE NEW FREAKOUT!
THE MARS VOLTA - Amputechture [CD/2006] 10/10=Mother fucker…and to think I just got the 2nd album and got into that…when along comes album number three to completely hose the first two. This record is more than music, it is a journey.
THE MARS VOLTA - The Bedlam in Goliath [CD/2008] 8/10=While I might just need more spins to get into it, this is just not at the level of Amputechture which was beyond brilliant. Still a lot to like though.
THE MEADS OF ASPHODEL - The Excommunication of Christ [CD/2001] 8/10=Great debut of glorious and atmospheric medieval black metal, plus the Hawkwind cover rules.
THE MEADS OF ASPHODEL - Exhuming the Grave of Yeshua [CD/2003] 7/10=A curious UK black metal band, they play with a slower paced, more rocking style and the vocals remind me of Venom. This is good stuff though.
THE MEADS OF ASPHODEL - The Mill Hill Sessions [DVD56/2004] 2/5=Compilation of older tunes, with some Hawkwind guest spots and a Sepultura cover...just skip it and go with their great full-lengths, this isn't so hot.
THE MEADS OF ASPHODEL - Damascus Steel [CD/2005] 9/10=Incredible, my favorite Meads album yet, another Hawkwind cover...and appearances by Huw of Hawkwind and Sigh of Mirai!
THE MEADS OF ASPHODEL - In the Name of God, Welcome to Planet Genocide [CD/2006]
THE MEADS OF ASPHODEL - Life is Shit [CD/2007]
THE MISSION UK - Gods Own Medicine [CD/1987] 7/10=A very underrated English band, they were easily as good as U2, Blur, or any of those guys and yet they never quite got in the grace of the public eye.
THE MISSION UK - The First Chapter [CD/1987] 6/10=Early singles and b-sides, most of which were a while before they started doing records. Some gems here, but their newer material was much better.
THE MISSION UK - Children [CD/1988] 7/10=I guess you could call them a 'gothic' band, shocking how they totally kick the Sisters of Mercy's ass and got no recognition whatsoever!
THE MISSION UK - Carved in Sand [CD/1990] 7/10=One of the more popular records because of 'Butterfly on a Wheel', has some nice songs but still not their best.
THE MISSION UK - Grains of Sand [CD/1990] 7/10=Another b-sides album, with some new material as well, this was actually pretty good stuff here.
THE MISSION UK - Masque [CD/1992] 10/10=Excellent. The best album they ever recorded, I think every song on here is catchy, frankly, every song on here is damn near unforgettable.
THE MISSION UK - Sum and Substance [CD/1994] 2/10=Has two extra, new tracks for 2 points, the rest is just a compilation. Can't get too excited now, promise?
THE MISSION UK - Salad Daze [CD/1994] 5/10=Radio sessions, one of those things that will appeal to fans only, and not much else.
THE MISSION UK - Neverland [CD/1995] 7/10=Another good quality Mission U.K. record, another one that went right past everyone, poor poor Mission U.K.
THE MISSION UK - Blue [CD/1996] 7/10=And again...rinse, and repeat. Underrated band comes out with another powerful album, and no one notices because they are listening to Puff Daddy and 2Pac. What a world.
THE MISSION UK - God is a Bullet [DVD33/2007] 7/10=10 years since I heard an album from them, this one is good and on par with Blue but it's not as good as Masque.
THE ORB - The Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld [CDx2/1991] 7/10=This one is probably famous for having 'Little Fluffy Clouds', though the rest of the album is decent, if not better than that song...
THE ORB - U.F.Orb [CD/1992]
THE ORB - Pomme Fritz [CD/1994]
THE ORB - Orbvs Terrarvm [CD/1995] 9/10=However, THIS is where things got really interesting, a brilliant, abstract tapestry of electronics, ambience, and sampled sounds. Nothing else is quite like this group.
THE ORB - Orblivion [CD/1997] 8/10=I had a slightly more ominous vibe from this, though it picks up where Orbvs Terravm left off, with more songs, and more structure to those songs. Structure is not always a good thing though.
THE ORB - Cydonia [CD/2001] 8/10=Another very strong album by the Orb, a lot of female vocals on here, this one is trippy but more structured yet than the past two albums.
THE ORB - Back to Mine (comp) [CD/2003] 2/10=Eh, you don't really need this, just get all their albums if you can track them down.
THE ORB - Bicycles and Tricycles [CD/2004] 7/10=They've gone back to a sound not unlike Orblivion here, though I'd call this album much more 'pumpin' if that makes any sense. Not bad at all.
THE ORB - Okie Dokie It's the Orb on Kompakt [CD/2005]
THE ORB - Orbsessions Volume 1 [CD/2005]
THE ORB - The Dream [CD/2007]
THE VISION BLEAK - The Deathship Has a New Captain [DVD43/2004] 8/10=Imagine a version of modern Paradise Lost that was creepier, and more influenced by classic horror poetry. That sums up this great German band.
THE VISION BLEAK - Carpathia: A Dramatic Poem [DVD43/2005] 8/10=Pretty much on the level with the debut, a cool conceptual, spooky goth rock album, when taken in context it's great.
THE VISION BLEAK - The Wolves Go Hunt Their Prey [CD/2007] 8/10=Another classy album of creepy goth metal inspired by classic horror figures and scary old campfire tales! From like the 1700s or earlier....!
THEORY IN PRACTICE - Third Eye Function [CD/1997] 7/10=They had something to offer right from the start, precision, technical, bewildering death/thrash insanity.
THEORY IN PRACTICE - The Armageddon Theories [CD/1998] 9/10=A force to be fucking reckoned with, that is what these guys are. Absolutely fucking nuts. Perhaps Sweden's finest band. I am serious.
THEORY IN PRACTICE - Colonizing the Sun [CD/2000] 10/10=One of the best things I've ever heard, these guys obviously loved their classic thrash and death like Pestilence, but turn it into such an exciting, exhilirating medium!
THERION - Paroxysmal Holocaust [CD/1989] 6/10=Pretty fuckin' awesome for a demo from 1989, the sound is great and you can tell Therion always knew what they were doing.
THERION - 2nd Demo [CD/1990] 6/10=They seem to not appreciate the sound on their demos...but it was quite excellent and this is another strong one.
THERION - Time Shall Tell [CD/1990] 6/10=And yet another killer early recording in their old death style...this third demo/EP was released to vinyl only but you can track down the digital version and it's worth it.
THERION - Of Darkness... [CD/1991] 7/10=Not many bands would pull off such an excellent evolution over their careers...you can hear a lot of what's to come on this early album, their heaviest metal stuff, mostly culled from their demos.
THERION - Beyond Sanctorum [CD/1992] 7/10=Still death metal, but here is their first crack at male/female clean vocals, more keyboards, and a few folkish melodies here and there.
THERION - Symphony Masses: Ho Drakon Ho Megas [CD/1993] 8/10=Following the queue of their idols Celtic Frost, Therion are officially experimenting with their style...this is a great album that plants the seeds for their future orchestral evolution.
THERION - The Beauty in Black [CD/1995] 1/10=Sampler CD single for Lepaca Kliffoth with one non-album tune, and one point. I won't insult them because Christofer is a good guy and seems to realize the shortcomings of such a venture.
THERION - Lepaca Kliffoth [CD/1995] 10/10=Whoah...possibly my favorite album of this year, and Therion's strongest, great melodies and only a bit of orchestration. Fantastic songs, I will never forget this one.
THERION - Theli [CD/1996] 8/10=Here the band really venture forth with more operatic vocals and classical orchestration than in the past. It's not my favorite Therion record but it's a strong one
THERION - The Siren of the Woods [CD/1996] 1/10=I almost want to give this a negative score because it's got a radio edit...why would a talented band like this need a radio fucking edit? Going commercial? Also one more edited album track and a song originally for Entombed remade by Therion.
THERION - Al'Arab Zaraq Lucid Dreaming [CD/1997] 8/10=Pretty interesting release...some covers, a great song with Dan Swano, and an orchestral score for a short film with both metal and pure orchestral versions.
THERION - The Eye of Shiva [CD/1998] 0/10=Radio edits from Vovin and shit like that, completely worthless except to a completist piece of shit (like myself).
THERION - Vovin [CD/1998] 9/10=As far as their orchestral records, this is in my opinion the very best...excellent catchy work and the song with Ralf Scheepers singing, 'The Wild Hunt' is a nice addition.
THERION - The Crowning of Atlantis [CD/1999] 5/10=A brand new song, some unreleased earlier tunes, a remix, a few covers (2 with Ralf Scheepers covering Loudness and Manowar) and three live tracks. Corporate violation for the most part, as Christofer has said himself.
THERION - Deggial [CD/2000] 7/10=Not a bad album, but it slipped right past me at the time, now that I've gone back and listened it's pretty good.
THERION - Secret of the Runes [CD/2001] 8/10=I had been waiting for them to try this, a concept album about Eddas/Norse mythology...very strong at points but weak in a few others, nice experimentation with the chanting vocals.
THERION - Bells of Doom [CD/2001] 2/10=Some stuff from pre-Therion when they were called Blitzkrieg, and demos of Therion songs, this was given out to their fan club and hopefully they didn't charge for it.
THERION - Live in Midgard [CDx2/2002] 5/10=You know how I feel about live albums, but at least they gave us quantity here with a good selection of songs and quality production.
THERION - Lemuria [CD/2004] 7/10=Putting two albums out at once can't be easy...but this has some nice mythological-meets-sci-fi concepts and some diver music, even if it is my hope Therion will once again progress some day.
THERION - Sirius B [CD/2004] 7/10=More sci-fi/myth conceptual, orchestral metal, I enjoyed this album slightly more than Lemuria, although both are released at the same time, this has some great melodies.
THERION - Celebrators of Becoming [CD/2006] 5/10=Another decent live double album.....yeah.....well....
THERION - Gothic Kaballah [DVD2/2006] 5/10=The music...excellent. The fairy vocals. AWFUL. Go back to the good female operatic vocals, you do not need this passive fairy crap on your records Therion. What happened?
THERION - Live Gothic [DVD137/2008] 4/5=Decent sounding live album, but how about a new Therion album that doesn't suck? At least more like Lemuria and Sirius B.
THROES OF DAWN - FIN [??#?#?]
TIAMAT - Sumerian Cry [CD/1990] 7/10=Raw, doom-laden death metal from this Sweden band that would take more career turns than a Hollywood child actor in the 80s. Did that make any sense? This was a promising start for Tiamat.
TIAMAT - The Astral Sleep [CD/1991] 7/10=Another album in their early vein, just pure doom/death, plodding along without abandon or hope.
TIAMAT - Clouds [CD/1992] 8/10=I was more impressed with this when it came out, the added goth/symphonic elements made some of these songs exceedingly catchy, and there is not a bad track to be found, but doesn't have much longevity.
TIAMAT - Wildhoney [CD/1994] 9/10=Although there were more strong songs on Clouds, that album doesn't hold up to time quite as well as this, with it's mixture of doom epics (title track) and Pink Floyd-like trip songs.
TIAMAT - A Deeper Kind of Slumber [CD/1997] 10/10=Fucking brilliant. The band have evolved here into a unique entity. Each of these desolate tunes shines with a radiance of eloquent songwriting and speculative, deep lyrics.
TIAMAT - Skeleton Skeletron [CD/1999] 8/10=The goth rock direction they took on this album is fun, and some of the lyrics quite cynical and memorable, but it is not as strong as the last two albums.
TIAMAT - Judas Christ [CD/2002] 7/10=Another album similar to Skeleton Skeletron, with perhaps a bit more of a 'cowboy' feel to it, that Edlund would capitalize on with his side band Lucyfire.
TIAMAT - Prey [CD/2004] 6/10=For some reason, this was a good listen at first but I have only spun it perhaps one more time since its release. Pretty boring record for Tiamat. They need another direction shift.
TIAMAT - Amanethes [CD/2008] 7/10=I thought the album was pleasant upon the first few listens, unfortunately we've gotta wait even longer for a masterpiece that could compare with A Deeper Kind of Slumber or even Wildhoney.
TOBIN, AMON - Bricolage [CD/1997] 8/10=This Brazilian-born DJ was really onto something interesting in his style, combining a slew of musical forms into an innovative electronic experience.
TOBIN, AMON - Pirahna Breaks EP [CD/1997] 4/10=It's an EP with material similar to Bricolage, not so bad for the couple tracks it lasts.
TOBIN, AMON - Permutation [CD/1998] 9/10=A brilliant 'permutation' of jazz, funk, jungle, trip-hop and groove, though there are some filler tracks to uneven the experience.
TOBIN, AMON - Supermodified [CD/2000] 9/10=Highly experimental. Highly enjoyable. Tracks like 'Marine Machines' warrant many repeated listens to this record.
TOBIN, AMON - 4 Ton Mantis [CD/2000] 3/10=A 'single' from Amon Tobin. You'd think such an artsy, cool label like Ninja Tune would forego the music media bullshit.
TOBIN, AMON - Out From Out Where [CD/2002] 7/10=Another experimental album, but I did not like this quite so much as any of the previous albums.
TOBIN, AMON - Verbal [CD/2002] 6/10=An EP with some reworked material from the latest album.
TOBIN, AMON - Verbal Remixes and Collaborations [CD/2003] 5/10=Another EP with some reworked material from the latest album, this time by some other people.
TOBIN, AMON - Foley Room [CD/2007] 9/10=Amon Tobin rarely delivers less than his best, and here is yet another sweeping, diverse soundscape from his unending rhythmic mind...in a word, fantastic.
T.O.O.H. - From Higher Will [DVD129/1999] 8/10=One of the best bands out of the Czech Republic, psycho tech death grindcore with a lot of musicality. An impressive debut.
T.O.O.H. - Z Vyssi Vule [CD/2000] 8/10=This Czech band is completely fucking nuts. Spastic black, grinding technical chaos metal. Wonderful.
T.O.O.H. - Pod Vladou Bice [CD/2003] 8/10=Sick Czech blasting black/deah metal, sounds like nothing else you've ever heard...has a punishing grind element and some interesting, tortured vocals.
T.O.O.H. - Order and Punishment [CD/2006] 9/10=This band is completely insane. Easily the best Czech band alongside Root and Master's Hammer.
TORMENTOR (HUN) - Anno Domini [CD/1998] 9/10=Fucking excellent, blistering black thrash metal, possibly the best thing Attila Csihar has ever done...if you like black metal or early thrash then you HAVE to have this.
TORMENTOR (HUN) - Recipe Ferrum! 777 [CD/2001] 8/10=Really could not be MORE different than the debut album, this is like demented black prog rock...yet it's still very high quality, just about every song is catchy.
TOXIK - World Circus [CD/1988] 7/10=Impressive hyper thrash metal with a crazy motherfucking singer.
TOKIX - Think This [CD/1989] 9/10=Second and final album by these American thrash experts, new singer that can sing much better, amazing concepts and amazing songs here, I love it.
TRAUMA (POL) - Comedy is Over [CD/1996]
TRAUMA (POL) - Daimonion [CD/1998] 6/10=Perhaps not at the level of their later work, but the roots for this Polish death metal band are evident here, focused only on the songwriting and not technical wankery.
TRAUMA (POL) - Suffocated in Slumber [CD/2000] 7/10=I wasn't thrilled by the vocals here, but there is no denying this is some talented Polish death metal with some great riffs without directly ripping off Vader, Behemoth, etc.
TRAUMA (POL) - Imperfect Like a God [CD/2003] 7/10=Another decent quality death metal band out of Poland...this one has been around for some time, not quite at the level of a Vader or Decapitated but still fairly rounded.
TRAUMA (POL) - Determination [CD/2005] 9/10=An amazingly impressive album of technical death metal, with fantastic riff after riff, great production, and tight songwriting, setting a new watermark for Polish death.
TRAUMA (POL) - Hamartia [CD/2006] 3/3=A new single with some new tunes, a Cannibal Corpse cover, etc. The new material is pretty damn good so I am awaiting the full-length with much anticipation.
TRAUMA (POL) - Neurotic Mass [CD/2007] 9/10=One of Poland's top death metal bands returns with yet another near masterpiece of a record, every song is great, catchy, and brutal without losing sight of songcraft.
TRIBES OF NEUROT - Rebegin [CD/1995] 7/10=Some early ToN experimental ambience, the first track is about 25 minutes long and then the other four are shorter but just as interesting. I eat this shit right up.
TRIBES OF NEUROT - Silver Blood Transmission [CD/1995] 7/10=Another pretty damn fine record, this one sort of goes along with Neurosis Through Silver in Blood.
TRIBES OF NEUROT - Grace [CD/1999] 6/10=I'll admit I prefer to listen to this simultaneously with the Neurosis counterpart Times of Grace, which I can now do with my CoolEdit splice, but on its own it is still passable ambience.
TRIBES OF NEUROT - Winter Solstice [CD/2001] 7/10=Yet another of those great ToN concepts...to record a lengthy track for each season and release it. You can really see where they are going with this if you listen a few times.
TRIBES OF NEUROT - Summer Solstice [CD/2001] 8/10=My favorite of their seasonal tracks, I really identified with this and actually played it during the summer.
TRIBES OF NEUROT - Autumn Equinox [CD/2001] 7/10=Another of their cycle of seasonal recordings, actually my favorite season, but not my favorite record in this cycle.
TRIBES OF NEUROT - Adaptation and Survival [CDx2/2002] 9/10=Things like this are just genius ideas...sampled insect sounds roiled into a strange ambience...each track on the two discs can be played with others simultaneously because they all have the same length. Wonderful to relax to.
TROLL - Drep De Kristne [CD/1996] 7/10=At times I found myself laughing here, almost as much as with Rakun, but I dig Troll's blend of raw black metal and campy atmosphere on this album.
TROLL - Trollstorms over Nidingjuv [CD/1996] 6/10=I enjoy Troll, and despite this being a 4-song EP it rules and all Troll fans should attain it.
TROLL - The Last Predators [CD/2000] 8/10=Troll's first sci-fi epic black metal record, with tight, short songs and great song titles like 'Colony x-11: Inflict Mythical Mayhem'. Fucking excellent, fucking Troll.
TROLL - Universal [CD/2004] 9/10=There is just something vital about Troll on this album...it's sci-fi, industrial-tinged black metal, but I enjoy the production and the songs, my favorite overall by them.
TROUBLE - Psalm 9 [CD/1984] 9/10=Trouble always sounded good, wrote good songs, and certainly were one of the prototype doom metal bands, and who could ever forget Wagner's bastardized Robert Plant impersonation?
TROUBLE - The Skull [CD/1985] 8/10=Another killer old record by this excellent doom metal band, one thing I can say I do not like is that the band are supposedly pretty Christian...is this true?
TROUBLE - Run to the Light [CD/1987] 8/10=Not my favorite Trouble, but still a strong album on their road to becoming the metal Beatles, a comparison that is often heard and actually true.
TROUBLE - Trouble [CD/1990] 8/10=Always an excellent heavy metal band, doing their own brand of crushing stoner doom far ahead of the pack.
TROUBLE - Manic Frustration [CD/1992] 10/10=This is a band with a lot of great albums, but this is really their tour de force. The fact that this album didn't propel them to the top of the metal world is a fucking travesty.
TROUBLE - Plastic Green Head [CD/1995] 8/10=Despite the goofy album title, this album pretty much followed in the footsteps of Manic Frustration, and is qutie good although not as perfect. Sadly, their last full length.
TROUBLE - Demos & Rarities 1980-95 [CD/2005] 5/10=Eh, it will be appeal to fans who want to hear bad recordings of Trouble, but I'm just glad that it seems they have returned! Another 'comeback'...will it be any good?
TROUBLE - Simple Mind Condition [CD/2007] 7/10=It may not be a perfect comeback, in fact it's the worst Trouble album ever, but that doesn't stop it from having some good songs. Good to see them back.
TSJUDER - Div Gammelt Stasj [DVD44/1995] 3/5=First demo from the Norse black cult, already thriving with evil.
TSJUDER - Ved Ferdens Ende [DVD44/1995] 3/5=Another grim as fuck demo.
TSJUDER - Possessed [DVD44/1996] 3/5=Apocalyptic destruction on a massive scale on the third demo!
TSJUDER - Throne of the Goat [DVD44/1997] 4/5=Two track EP, the sound is absolutely filthy and vile. The songs can peel your flesh.
TSJUDER - Atum Nocturnem [DVD44/1999] 4/5=Pure fucking caustic evil on this EP.
TSJUDER - Kill for Satan [CD/2001] 6/10=Well, nice sample to kick it all off...and then, yep, exactly what you'd expect, unflinching, satanic black metal holocaust, a good genre album without a single original riff or idea.
TSJUDER - Demonic Possession [CD/2002] 8/10=Perhaps I just enjoyed the music better, perhaps they simply ARE better on this record, it's quite good, songs like 'Ancient Hate' and 'Blooshedding Horror' are what I want to hear.
TSJUDER - Desert Northern Hell [CD/2004] 9/10=Uncompromising black attack, an act of inconceivable evil upon the ears of all its listeners, fucking amazing.
TURBONEGRO - Hot Cars and Spent Contraceptives [CD/1992] 7/10=One of their early records, and you could already hear the 'deathpunk' roots, which was really no more than punk music with some decent lyrics and melodies.
TURBONEGRO - Never is Forever [CD/1994]
TURBONEGRO - Ass Cobra [CD/1996] 8/10=By far the best of their earlier albums, nice and dirty and a lot of great songs.
TURBONEGRO - Apocalypse Dudes [CD/1998] 8/10=Kind of a dark, gay European cock rock band, but they do in fact rock, and that is most important, after all...eh? This is like the Rolling Stones and Ramones if they all fucked.
TURBONEGRO - Darkness Forever! [CDx2/1999] 5/10=Double album of live Turbonegro goodness, again, it's a live record, I'd much rather go see them than listen live on record, but I'll take this for now.
TURBONEGRO - Love it to Deathpunk: The Life and Times of Turbonegro [CD/2001] 5/10=Some songs that will appear or did appear on other records, and some live tracks.
TURBONEGRO - Scandinavian Leather [CD/2003] 8/10=Another cheesy intro leading up to the album title and then the gay death punks rock the fuck out all over again, as usual their music is a big post-Ramones party but this has a more profound 70s rock influence.
TURBONEGRO - Party Animals [CD/2005] 9/10=And yet another album rife with party rock anthems, the name says it all and these guys deliver on the old school campy rock and roll. The best KISS since KISS!
TURBONEGRO - City of Satan [CD/2005] 1/10=Got it for the bonus track 'Hi, I Got No Pulse', and that's the only reason you should get it.
TURBONEGRO - Small Feces [CDx2/2006] 6/10=Huge rarities/unreleased package with all kinds of stuff on it, fans take note. In Hank We Trust or something.
TURNONEGRO - Retox [CD/2007] 8/10=Another great album from Turbonego, though it doesn't have a "City of Satan" it is pretty fucking rock solid.
TURISAS - The Heart of Turisas [CD/2001] 5/10=This is a nice little sampler EP of what would be made even more glorious on the followup full-length, the opening riff has been done by metal bands 100 times but perhaps its traditional?
TURISAS - Battle Metal [CD/2004] 8/10=This is another of those atavistic, tongue-in-cheek bands i.e. Bal-Sagoth, but they are extremely good at what they do and I find myself wanting to swill my ale and run over some Christians with a longship.
TURISAS - The Varangian Way [CD/2007] 9/10=Three years and it was worth the wait, amazing new album and it trumps Battle Metal!
TURISAS - To Holmgard and Beyond [DVD34/2007] 1/3=Single with an album track, an edited album track, and a Finnish vocal version of a song, plus a video. In other words, quite worthless.
TWILIGHTNING - Delirium Veil [CD/2003] 8/10=This band plays on the light side of the Finnish power metal spectrum, but what they play is of consistently good quality, the vocalist puts a lot into each song and this is a good band.
TWILIGHTNING - Plague House Puppet Show [CD/2004] 9/10=Hard to pinpoint exactly...traces of peers Stratovarius and Sonata Arctica but Twilightning is better because they write fucking songs instead of just flagellating on their instruments for chicks and Guitar dorks, a great hard rock/metal album.
TWILIGHTNING - Bedlam [CD/2006] 3/5=There are a few tunes here on this EP I wasn't thrilled with, but the others are good and somewhat make up for the slack.
TWILIGHTNING - Swinelords [CD/2007] 8/10=It's not as good as the previous album, but it's still quite good and on par at least with the debut.
TWIN OBSCENITY - Where Light Touches None [CD/1997] 8/10=Their first and best album, Norse atmospheric black metal, a hint of the Viking but not too much, also...best album title ever? I think so.
TWIN OBSCENITY - For Blood, Honor and Soil [CD/1998] 7/10=Not as good as their debut album, not even the album title :). Still good though.
TWIN OBSCENITY - Bloodstone [CD/2001] 8/10=A mite bit better than the 2nd album, and about as good as the debut. What a way to go out, as this was their last album.
TYR - How Far to Asgard [CD/2002] 7/10=Prog/Viking metal crossover from the Faroe Islands of all places, this is good shit and so is the following abum.
TYR - Eric the Red [CD/2003] 7/10=Soaring folk metal, it's done quite well, the vocals of course are clean and clear and you can really get into this b/c of the good production.
TYR - Ragnarok [CD/2006] 9/10=Proof that there is Viking metal beyond the black/death/folk style you expect to hear.
TYR - Land [CD/2008] 9/10=The greatest metal band from the Faroe Island ever returns with yet another fantastic Viking offering to burn upon the waves. I liked Ragnarok slightly more, but this is still fucking unbelievable.
