Music Y You compreat me

YEARNING - With Tragedies Adorned [CD/1997] 8/10=Somber and folkish, this is a great Finnish melodic doom album with both clean crooning and growls.
YEARNING - Plaintive Scenes [CD/1999] 7/10=Ever overlooked in the melodic goth/doom field, another solid entry, the last with their original lineup and the female Lady Tiina on vocals (she might have been in Silentium too).
YEARNING - Frore Meadow [CD/2000] 8/10=Great record, one again the band is completely obscured by so many metal bands getting huge. This is overall their best record, track this down if you like this kind of stuff.
YEARNING - Evershade [CD/2003] 5/10=Still trying to get into this. It just seems the least inspired of their albums, though not particularly bad.
YEARNING - Merging Into Landscapes [CD/2007] 8/10=It's their best material in about 7 years, far better than the mediocre Evershades and a solid effort in this atmospheric gothic doom metal genre.

YES - Yes [CD/1969] 9/10=For 1969, this is a pretty stunning and impressive goddamn piece of music...the dawn of their highly progressive pop rock.
YES - Time and a Word [CD/1970] 10/10=Super melodic sophomore effort, a record even better than the debut album...way to make an impression.
YES - The Yes Album [CD/1971] 8/10=We're starting to see some of the longer tracks, more explorative, like "Starship Trooper"...but to be honest this is not my favorite Yes record, it's only GREAT.
YES - Fragile [CD/1972] 10/10=Brilliant, imo their second true masterpiece, I love "Roundabout" and "Heart of the Sunrise".
YES - Close to the Edge [CD/1972] 10/10=One of their most famous works, and with good reason, it is a flawless masterpiece, three lengthy tunes including the very popular title track.
YES - Yessongs [CDx2/1973] 4/5=Pretty cool double live album, I have to admit I'm more of a fan of the studio work because I just love the sound they used to achieve in the studio.
YES - Tales from Topographic Oceans [CDx2/1974] 10/10=One of my favorite albums as a young man, frankly I'd say it's my favorite conceptual progressive rock record of the 70s, not an instant appeal here, listen many times.
YES - Relayer [CD/1974] 10/10=I like it only a smidgeon less than Tales from Topographic Oceans, and it blows my freakin' mind how both of these amazing conceptual works could have released in the same year.
YES - Yesterdays [CD/1975] 2/5=Compilation but worth it for the B-side "Dear Father" and the compilation track "America" that are included.
YES - Going for the One [CD/1977] 9/10=Only two longer tunes here, back to a more accessible rock format for many of the tunes, yet it's still extremely impressive.
YES - Tormato [CD/1978] 9/10=Yes is probably one of the greatest bands ever, by this point they already have more quality music than most legends produce in their entire career...but how will they hold up in the 80s?
YES - Drama [CD/1980] 8/10=So far, so good, it's not a favorite Yes record but again, even their worst work was pretty fascinating.
YES - Yesshows [CDx2/1980] 4/5=Another double live album.
YES - Classic Yes [CD/1981] 1/5=A compilation that includes two live tracks.
YES - 90125 [CD/1983] 9/10=big change here, this was the real Yes 80s rock direction, and yet it spawned their most famous song ever "Owner of a Lonely Heart", also has the great "It Can Happen". Great, great stuff.
YES - 9012live: The Solos [CD/1985] 5/10=An album of solos, yeah of course these guys could play like crazy but wants a fucking album full of solos?
YES - Big Generator [CD/1987] 9/10=It pretty much defines their 80s period, a lot of people HATE this record but I LOVE it. Melodic rock, much better than so much of the shit on the radio at the time. Has "Love Will Find a Way".
YES - Anderson, Wakeman, Bruford, Howe [CD/1989] 5/10=Technically not a YES record but it has the members of YES and there are of course YES songs, and some solos...agh.
YES - Union [CD/1991] 10/10=Probably the most 'rock' record of their career, yet still defined by the extremely catchy vocal melody and amazing songcraft. It was my favorite YES in 13 years when it first came out...
YES - Yesyears [CDx4/1991] 4/5=Four disc box set, impressive for fans and of course if you've never heard of them I just suggest the albums.
YES - Yesstory [CDx2/1992] 1/5=After a four disc box set, does anyone really need this?
YES - Hightlights: The Very Best of Yes [CD/1993] 0/5=...........
YES - An Evening of Yes Music Plus [CDx2/1994] 1/5=Have fun getting paid for this, gentlemen?
YES - Talk [CD/1994] 6/10=So after a few years of corporate bullshit, YES put out what I consider their career worst album. Just didn't get into the songs here, it's not a sucky record but it lacks the epic melody.
YES - Keys to Ascension [CDx2/1996] 5/5=In my opinion this is the first in a pair of their best double live records ever, and some cool new studio tracks help.
YES - Keys to Ascension II [CDx2/1997] 5/5=In my opinion the second in a pair of their best double live records ever, more new studio tracks.
YES - Open Your Eyes [CD/1997] 7/10=There are some pretty damn good songs on here, it's still among their worst but better than Talk.
YES - Something's Coming: Beyond and Before: The BBC Recordings 1969-70 [CDx2/1998] 4/5=Cool fan package with their BBC recordings all in one place over two discs.
YES - The Ladder [CD/1999] 6/10=A lot of people considered this their 'return to form' album, but honestly I liked it only a tiny bit more than Talk.
YES - Best of Yes [CD/2000] 0/10=Fuck you.
YES - Live from the House of Blues [CDx2/2000] 1/5=Aaagggggggoooonnneeee...
YES - Keystudio [CD/2001] 6/10=The collection of studio material from the Keys to Ascension albums with some extra material.
YES - Magnification [CD/2001] 9/10=YES! Welcome back! Easily the best YES record in a decade, I still prefer Union but this is very much a return to form, it rocks and it has an orchestra...great album.
YES - In a Word [CDx5/2002] 2/5=Five disc collection, just go get the individual albums, don't be a pussy.
YES - The Ultimate Yes: 35th Anniversary Collection [CDx2/2004] 0/10=Kill yourselves corporate bloodhounds.

YRKOON - Oniric Transition [CD/1999] 6/10=They had a strange sound here, sort of progressive, melodic death metal, it wasn't bad at all but their future albums are going to kick a lot more ass.
YRKOON - Dying Sun [CD/2002] 8/10=Went back to snag this one, it's much more of a melodic death album, but still quite excellent and interesting. Nice songs, nice production, imagine Shadows Fall if they were 10x better and French?!?
YRKOON - Occult Medicine [CD/2004] 9/10=Naming your band after the antagonist from the first Elric of Melnibone novel is pretty classy, and if your band plays some sick death/thrash metal, all the better...
YRKOON - Unhealthy Opera [CD/2006] 9/10=I simply love this band...ever since Dying Sun they have been producing some truly awesome death metal, this album has a very Morbid Angel feel. Never a bad thing, now, is it?
