August 1, 2001 Saw another Infectious Disease doctor (Infectious Disease doctor #) and he says the condition on tongue isn’t Candida because if it was, it would have gone away with Diflucan. Says the stuff on tongue isn’t caused by medication either because when medication stopped, this didn’t go away. He has no idea as to what is on my tongue. He told me to take rinse twice a day with Chlorhexidin and to apply Nystatin twice a day to corner of mouth. Says to see Oral Surgeon and have them take biopsy because a culture will show Candida in everybody. Night August 3, 2001 to Morning August 8, 2001 (5½ days) Chlorhexidin rinse twice a day (10 rinses total) Noticed black marks on tongue, but went away when I stopped rinses August 3, 2001 to Current date Nystatin ointment on corner of lips twice a day 100,000 USP per gram August 3, 2001 Saw Oral Surgeon (not so sure if he’s doctor or just dentist). Didn’t try to help diagnose problem. Only took tongue culture and said that biopsy only takes tongue out, doesn’t help. Had to urge him several times to write on requisition “Perform full identification”, rather than say whether its Candida albicans or not, because there are other species of Candida, or anything else for that manner that can be causing the suffering. Prescribed Mycelex to dissolve in mouth. Said that perhaps condition is caused by sinuses. August 8, 2001 Called Infectious Disease doctor #2 and told him that condition isn’t improving. He says he doesn’t think its an infection, but he doesn’t know what it is. August 9, 2001 Mycelex 10 mg Took it twice, 5 hours apart. Caused the worst feeling in mouth ever experienced, stomachache, nausea, and vomiting. Situation worsened after taking it second time, hense I stopped taking it. August 16, 2001 Saw Ear Nose Throat doctor who also doesn’t know what it is. Says maybe it’s all in my head. Wouldn’t even look at the medical history, nor any articles on possible treatment for Burning Mouth Syndrome. Said this problem had nothing to do with sinuses, as the Oral Surgeon suggested it may. He suggested going to a dental school nearby for treatment. Night August 23, 2001 to Morning August 27, 2001 Burning sensation is so much worse that it even hurts to brush my teeth. My teeth hurt. Noticed small white bumps, sores, on either side of my inner cheeks that is making this worse. When something touches it, even the part of toothbrush behind the bristles, the pain is horrible. Hense, I've taken Chlorhexidin rinse again so it doesn't get worse. Night August 27, 2001 Pain in mouth, in terms of when I brush my teeth and the sores on either side of my inner cheek is less, almost gone, so I stopped the Chlorhexidin for now. August 29, 2001 Went to see Oral Specialist who prescribed Clonazapam 0.5mg. Says it's a problem with nerves, a phantom pain, certainly not in my head. Will see how it goes then will contact doctor in 2 weeks. September 3, 2001 When taking Clonazepam, I realized that I forgot to mention three things to Oral Specialist on August 29th: 1. Color of tongue on the surface is irregular, it's supposed to be pink, not this whitish color. Again, discoloration is only on the top part of the tongue. 2. All my life, sometimes, rarely, at the right corner of my right eye, I see a black speck the size of a whole black pepper grain. This would occur perhaps once every 6 months, or perhaps 2, 3 times a year and the episode would last a few seconds. 10 years ago, I asked my eye doctor about this and he said a lot of people have this. 3. Had gum pain for roughly 3 to 4 months, I don't remember. What does this have to do with my current situation? Let me start by saying that Clonazepam is working slowly, 4-5% less each day, from the day I started to take it. There are times (during and after meals) when I cannot feel the burning sensation even if I tried. The pain in my gums are gone, so I'm not sure if that's a good side-effect, or if it was related to BMS. As for annoying/bad side-effects, at the right corner of my right eye, sometimes I see moving clouds, or rather, moving black smoke, size of 8 " to 10", not dense but apart, sparce. This isn't continuous, they come and go once in a while and last for a few seconds. On average, this comes once every few hours. Seems as if few of my hairs are hanging, cut hairs. There is also slight bluriness in the eyes, particularly when I read (I have to squint a little even though I already use reading glasses) and watch T.V. The bluriness is 10-20%. Rough percentages of how well I can see certain things: seeing a person is 98%, reading is 90%, and watching T.V. is 95%. The bluriness is perpetual but I don't mind at this point because that BMS is going away. September 4, 2001 Relatively more burning when brushing teeth. This is compared with the various degrees of the burning sensation felt since taking Clonazepam. I really don't think this has anything to do with the Clonazepam, but I'm mentioning it just in case. When stepping off a curb not more than 4", I walked and fell, something I have never done in my life. Just walking nicely and then suddenly, I fall. My knee seems to have twisted, but fortunately for me, I work out and last time I was at my doctor's, he said I had really strong patellas (knee caps). I really didn't feel any pain after that. September 5, 2001 Ok, I do feel some pain in my knee. When I woke up this morning, I had to apply Tiger Balm and then wrap my knee. I wanted to workout today, but no can do and all because of my knee. Again, I really don't think this has to do with Clonazepam, but I'm mentioning it anyway. More on my progress. 5% of the time, I think the burning is 98% gone, but another 5% of the time, 0% gone (100% still there). At the center of my 2 front teeth, between there, little space, the burning sensation is concentrated there as opposed to before, when the whole top row of teeth had the burning sensation. From the place between the 2 front teeth, the burning sensation is spreading to either side of the row of teeth, less and less, like radiation pain. Of course, the small area between 2 front teeth is 50% less than what it was before taking Clonazepam. During that 5% time when I feel that 98% of BMS is gone, I feel nothing between the 2 front teeth, 99.9% gone. By the way, the progress with Clonazepam is not in my head, the condition is in fact improving. |
