Ouido is an acoustic, Filipino band that plays a variety of songs. They play alternative, jazz, poprock and blues music. They have performed in a number of bars and places like Capones, Green Planet, Starbucks Glorietta 4 and is presently playing at Bistro 110.
Ouido is composed of a guitarist [Rico Ledesma] who also is the male vocalist, and 2 girl vocalists [Chesca Arnaldo and Teena Lim] who play the chiquitas. They have just recently hired a percussionist to accompany the band.
Originally, the three members of Ouido came from a band Mighty Tea which was formed around July of 2001 by a group of Benildean students. Mighty Tea was composed of 6 members, a guitarist, one male vocalist, 2 girl vocalists, a harmonica player and flutist. They started playing at Jekyll and Hyde for fun, with no pay. Their gig at Jekyll and Hyde lasted for nearly 3 months until one Wednesday on a final exams week, only Rico, Chesca and Teena were available to play for that night. During their jamming session for the said gig, a friend of Rico’s called and asked if he knew any acoustic band that could play that night at a new bar, Capones with pay of P2000. The 3 decided to call their gig off at Jekyll since it was an exam week thinking logically that no one would watch since everyone had to study, and took the opportunity at Capones. They played that night at the said bar and luckily got a regular slot for 9 months. It was with Ouido that the management of Capones decided to have regular acoustic nights. After a month, Ouido together with Session Road and Labuyo became the regular acoustic bands of Capones. From them on, Rico, Chesca and Teena disbanded from Mighty Tea and pursued Ouido.
To add up on the background, Ouido and Session Road became the first acoustic bands that ever performed in Green Planet, which was originally a stand-up comedy club. Also, Ouido was the first and only band that has ever performed in Starbucks Glorietta 4.
Since Ouido is just an acoustic band composed of a very small sum of members, they do not jam in a studio rather, in Rico’s house, and learn songs from the mp3.
As of the moment, they only have one original song. School load is tying them up from being able to meet and compose more songs, but will be when everything isn’t too hectic anymore.
