Oatmeal Cookies
Our recipe of choice for chocolate chip cookies

1/2 Cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 Cup sugar
1/2 Cup shortening
1 Egg
1 Tsp vanilla
1 Tbsp skim milk
1 Cup flour, sifted
1/2 Tsp baking soda
1/2 Tsp baking powder
1/2 Tsp salt
1 Cup oatmeal, uncooked
  • Heat oven to 350oF. Grease cookie sheet (optional).
  • Beat brown and white sugars, shortening, egg, vanilla, and milk until smooth.
  • Sift together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Add all at once to egg mixture. Beat until smooth.
  • Add oats and additional ingredients (see below). Mix well.
  • Drop by tsp onto baking sheet, 2 inches apart. Bake 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned.
  • Variations: Add 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips or raisins.

  • Yield: 36 cookies.
