Mom's Shake 'N Bake
1 1/2 Cup bread crumbs, dry and seasoned
1 Cup flour
1 1/2 Tbsp salt
1 Tbsp onion powder
1/2 Tsp garlic powder
1 Tsp pepper
6 Tbsp cornmeal
5 Tbsp shortening |
- Combine all ingredients except cornmeal and shortening.
- Whirl to a powder in a blender, 1/4 cup at a time, or in a food processor.
- Pour into a mixing bowl. Mix in cornmeal.
- Thoroughly cut in shortening (use your fingers) so that the mixture looks orange and crumby.
- Pour into a jar, cover securely, label, and store at room temperature.
- TO USE: Pour 3/4 mix into a plastic or paper bag.
- Moisten meat pieces in either water or milk, shaking off excess liquid.
- Shake chicken pieces, 1 or 2 pieces at a time, in the bag until coated. Place in an ungreased baking pan. Bake at 400oF for 45-55 minutes.
