1.
All submissions must be in the form of a poem. Obviously all common forms
such as sonnets, limericks, haiku, couplets, etc. are acceptable. However,
so are the following: mathematical equations, parables, artworks, music
(to be played in the background), and songs.
Reasoning: I've found that, in general, metaphysical discussions
between knowledgable people have a tendency to degrade after a short time
into yelling matches: You're not right, I am. By forcing people to write
in verse, I'm hoping to avoid this slide. Taking the time to express your
opinion rhymically has the effect of calming a foul temper. Furthermore,
I've found that by forcing an idea to fit into a particular poetic form,
the necessary word choices bring out new, previously unseen meanings.
As concluded in the book "Theories of Everything" by John D.
Barrow: "No non-poetic account of reality can be complete."
2.
Submissions should not exceed 22 lines, or 640 x 480 for artistic submissions,
or 3 minutes for musical submissions.
Reasoning: This is to enforce concision. Epic accounts
should be posted on your own
(or at The
Philosopher Stone)
3.
Submissions must be original, non-copyrighted works.
Reasoning: I don't want to get in
any trouble.
4.
No authorship will be assigned to any submission other than in the Authors
section of the site, which lists authors alphabetically.
Reasoning: Check your ego at the
door. All authorship will be assigned to the group as a whole, making
even the meekest of submissions equivalent to the greatest. If at anytime
the site becomes profitable, by advertising, publishing, etc., all money
obtained will be donated to charity.
5.
Submissions deemed hateful, racist, sexist, etc. will be rejected and
deleted.
Reasoning: This is obvious for a site dedicated to Truth.
6.
Comments on submissions should be placed in the guestbook.
Reasoning: Many times people will simply want to state
that a particular passage moved them, this can be done here so as to avoid
disturbing the rhythmic flow of the song.
7.
Anyone may add their voice to the song. To get automatic updates of additions
sent to you, you must join the 'Our
Song of Songs' group.
Reasoning: By allowing anyone to post without necessarily
joining the group, this will hopefully attract the timid and wary.
