La Jolla Shores and Cove

La Jolla Shores is a beautiful sandy beach. In the summer, the waves at this beach are usually the most gentle of all San Diego beaches, although rip currents may still be strong at times. A grassy area called Kellogg Park, located behind the main lifeguard station, is ideal for picnicking. At the north end of La Jolla Shores Beach, the Scripps Institute of Oceanography and Scripps pier are also good places to visit.
Tidepooling is a favorite at the La Jolla Cove Beach. Much of the Cove is a wildlife preserve, so people aren't allowed to remove anything from the area. Besides that, it is a great place for relaxation and fun. The cliff-ringed Cove and nearby Ellen Scripps Park are popular spots for resident La Jollans and visitors alike. The place is also good for swimming, surfing, and skin-diving.
Sometimes, sea lions may be seen sunning themselves on rocky outcrops just offshore. Explorer the La Jolla Caves from an access tunnel in the former La Jolla Shell Shop. Many other small toe medium stretches of beach such as the Children's Pool and Whispering Sands are within walking distance.
