MONDAY
It was time for a desert tramp, so we headed for Sonora Desert where we went for a very dry walk in a very dry river bed surrounded by saguaro cacti. I kept expecting John Wayne to pop out behind a cactus any second, but the only living creature we encountered was a big fat lizard trying to look like a branch. Our hot, sweaty and dusty tramp was followed by a trip to the Sonora Desert museum.

Another sunny day in Arizona: Time to take on Tombstone! Leaving the battle scenes, we stopped at Boot Hill Cemetary outside Tombstone - one could call it the dead end of town.

Most of us headed off really early to the Kartchner Caverns in Benson to secure tickets for this wonderfully preserved underworld and waiting for our time slot, we then secured ourselves a huge breakfast with pancakes'n'all at at typical highway diner.
Our morning in the underworld was followed by an afternoon of lazing around the ranch, playing settlers and beating the shit out of the pinnata (Go Larry!). The more energetic bunch of people and dogs in the group then climbed council hill (I think it's called) for a magnificent sunset.

For most of us, this was our final day together, and therefore best spent tramping in the Sabino Canyon. Unfortunately, it got very, very, very hot and our timing wasn't the best (midday sun), so after an hour or so, we decided that we'd had enough cacti and lizards, and the prospect of a swimming pool and ice cold Coronas at Barbara's friend's place was all too enticing, so we turned around and went for luxury.
