Camping in Japan is a great way to enjoy the outdoors. It is not so popular as in the states. Most campsites are privately ran and can be very expensive up to 8ooo yen. There are also public sites which cost only a few hundred yen or even free. I will try to provide you with the cheap or free ones as I get the information. |

I have camped here in Japan and found some really nice places and want to share them with you. Here in Japan, most people camp at campsites and during the months of July and August. Though it is not against the law,(unless posted ) to camp in undesignated areas. Japanese discourage camping in undesignated areas as they are not experienced at camping. It is always best to make sure you are in a safe area and free from flash floods and other weather related situations. Remember, mid June and July is the rainy season. |

Most any time during the summer, you will see campers on beaches and near rivers. One popular spot is under the bridge crossing the Sagami River near Camp Zama.
