People hear to music for many reasons it can to be relax, to kill time, to hype-up and to be at the mood or just to kill boredom! People hear to music to make work easier , they can hear music in the bus in the train , walking to someplace and anywhere u at!

I agree with Yoana. Music is entertaining and it does kill time. I have a long ride home and if I could, I'd bring my Ipod to school so I can listen to it as I'm going home. There's something about music that makes you relax and calm. It makes whatever you're doing and wherever you're going more exciting because you're not bored.

Period 8 Ivon Salas: I also agree with Yoana, music is sometimes used to relax and kill time. But I don't think that listening to music is just a fad. Ipods and mp3 player have made it easier and more comfortable to carry around your favorite music. I dont think people having their ears plugged up with head phones, listening to music is going to end anytime soon. People love having their music an arms reach away. Like Yoana and Nikia said people love having their music to entertainment during trips. People are now looking for entertainment in their ipods instead of a good book, and once again thats not going to cease any time soon. :)

I agree with Nikia. When you don't have anything to do or you want to release the stress pent up inside of you, music is there to calm and soothe you. Now, I wouldn't say it's a fad because it's only a way of life. I love listening to music, and it's good to have it, especially when I don't have a book to read.

I agree with Ivon, Music is something that changes your emotions or feelings, most of the time for the better. People enjoy having those feelings...and who wants to give up feelings that make you feel good? I enjoy listening to music and its something that can be used as a bonding technique.Music can be listened to with your family and you can all dance or find some activity to accompany it.Music is something that will stay with us for a long time, especially with technology advancing at the rate it is there will be more ways to enjoy your music. Music is only going to find more ways to develop itself into something that we each will crave more.

I agree with Ivon and Yoana. Music does relaxes you. But it depends on what time of music. For example, I really don't like hip-hop because most hip-hop songs don't relate to life. There is just words that pause and go. Personally, I find it stupid. Music such as Country can relate to life. It can help cheer you up your sad or feel alone. Music is something that can stay with people but it has to do with what type of muisc.

You have all suggested some good ideas. Am I to understand that all the people who have their ears plugged to their Ipod are listening to music?

To respond to your question no everyone doesn't have to be listening to music there are alot of things that can be heard on an ipod like an audio book or a movie. Getting back to the topic at I agree with Miguel alot of music nowadays doesn't have any real music. I'm not going to say particularly hip-hop music, because some hip-hop musicdoes have meaning and some people actually do care about what they are saying to the public. The type of music affects why you listen to it because if you can't understand what they are saying then there really isn't anything to like but the beat and/or melody.

I think that if a person inly hears to one type of music we should repect their thought. I mean not every one hears to the same thing and not every one thinks Music is cool! But to change other peoples mines to listen to other type of music not only one type we should make them listen to diffrent more type of music!

I like what everyone had to say. People do listen to other things on their Ipod like the anonymous author said, like audiobooks or podcasts. I can understand what Miguel is saying about hip hop. It isn't the way it used to be but some of it still has alot of heart and meaning. Although, the other genres of music is almost the same way. Shanelle makes alot of sense. Music makes you feel a type of way, whether it's happy, sad, excited, or mad.

Nikia. I do know what you mean when you said "It isn't the way it used to be but some of it still has a lot of heart and meaning". How was hip-hop back then? When you said that hip-hop has heart, I don't agree with you. I think only people like hip-hip because of the beat. Beat is not heart. Heart from a song is something you can relate to.

I completely agree with Danielle. Music is a way of life and peple listen to it because it helps keep you up and alive. Imagine a world with no music and creativity. It would me boring! How would you express your feelings towards things, HUH! I also think music is a perfect way to fill in the time void when sitting on the bus. The reason people have Ipods in their ears is because most teens are on trains and busses, sitting there, looking stupid. I mean, seriously, who would want to sit on a bus and stare at peoples faces for a 45 minute ride! C'mon people! So, no, i don't think that people Put ipods in their ears for nothing. They do it so they can enjoy theirselves and make a boring and dull time a good one.

Period 8 Nikia Evans To clear up what I said Miguel, hip hop was really great when it first came out in the 80's and 90's. Every song told a story and described life's struggles. People fell in love with this music because they could relate to the lyrics. A good beat was just a bonus. Most of hip hop songs today do not have a strong meaning and are pretty much pointless. However, rappers like Kanye West, Common, and Nas discuss alot of truthful things in their songs. Many rappers don't do that now, unfortunetly.

I agree with the anonymous person. A lot of the times I hear hip-hop music and the rapping and its all foolishness. For example, it might say something about sex, girls, and money. Nowadays they don't sing about the important things in life. Where's the heart in music? Life isn't always about getting with a girl, you know.

I agree with whoever Danielle agree's with. Rap these days is pointless and all it talks about is girls in bad sexual ways. I think every girl is beatiful and does not need to be portrayed as that "something" for sex. I think girls deserve better. This kind of crap poisons the mind and if that is all teens these days listen to on their ipods in their ears, then they shouldn't be carrying one in the first place!

Period 8 Ivon Salas:
I agree with Danielle, most hip hop is filled with crude nonsense. Music should be used as a way to express one self and to express their culture. Not to disrespect women and to look cool for their friends. People should make an effort to learn more about other genres of music. People can also listen to other cultures music. However, most I-pods of teens aren’t filled with cultural music. Teens should be enriching their musical taste. Whoever that was that first answered Mr. Lawson’s question, I agree with them. I-pods can have audio books which are great when people want to listen to a story. This is just another reason to have your ears plugged up!

I dont't think it's a fad. People listen too music for various resons but mostly it to kill time and not to be bored. I dis agree with Josehp because not all Rap songs is vulgar and talks about girls in bad sexual ways. I agree there is some Rap songs which had no structure and no good remarks but not all Rap songs are like that. Some of them talks about struggles and situations thats occuring in reality.

I agree with joseph in a way and i also agree with the people that say it has a message. I understand what joseph is trying to say because most of the time it is about sex and females but they also have songs that show alot of feeling and how the artist feels now and days. Some may think it's just about sex but if you dig deeper you may never kno if maybe thats what that artist went through in life. To yourself it may just be nonsense but its a person putting out their feelings. Some can relate and some can not. To me, its not a fad its a trend like mary said. Its played to kill time and cure your boredom. Without music this world would be so plain.

I agree with Jasmine and Mary that its a trend because people just have it because its "hot". Also a lot of people use it everywhere they go to sort of block out the world or just not to be annoyed. I also think that it is a good excuse not to talk to people even if you heard them, you can act like you didn't.

Cheynellie's thoughts
The thing is with us young teens we want to listen to what's hot and so we go more towards r&b hip hop and rap because thats just what we like. So i agree with Mary because a trend is what we like something new something hot not some old boring stuff we don't know nothing about. Music to me is like shoes she see something you like you buy it right. To answer mr.lawson question {when we have our ipod plugged into our ears most of the time it is music} So to anonymous who you really think is going to listen to a audio book and movies......(laughing my *** off) that right there tells me your a "wing" all so known as a lame
