well most pop artist toady is using very vulgar language because to make their music sounds good or to make it kinda explicit. but some pop artist don't do that. i strongly think that what I can do to change their behavior is by commenting on that person and not buying that person album.

I agree that a lot of hip-hop artist do degrade women by calling them sluts and hoes but their is nothing we can really do as consumers other than not buying their album. I believe that the artists only rapS like that so that they can make more money. Like T.I. said on "America vs. Hip-Hop", BET would not play a video with school girls and women with suits on in a video. It just wouldn't be write, so why are they complaining about women with regular closthes on. I say, WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TO...

well, when i read this over, it is really hard to pick sides on this situation. Majority of my school mates listen to "hip hop" music. they often talk about "women are this an that", an they curse about them and more. If we watch the videos it's the same thing. women are all over dancing and it really isnt a good look for them. my opinion is that both sides know EXACTLY what they are doing, but they feel that it is the only way for them top draw attention so that people can buy their music. The other day i wuz wathcing tv, an i came across something on the channel "VH1". they said "SEX SELLS", and i totaly agree with them. Now if we wanted to handel this problem, no matter what we tried to do, weither it wuz to boycott their music, or to refuse to buy it, we wouldnt be able to solve this problem for now.

As a consumer I can help to change these artists' behavior by protesting against their music and by writing to our lawmakers to make laws against such vulgar and degrading music. I also think that we can solve this problem by not buying their music. Other than that I dont really think that there is not much that we can do to solve this problem.

well,this is hard to say because we can protest and boycott against it but would it really work? Because they are million of people who will still listen and buy that type of music because that is what they like.It's up to women to stop degrading themselves!It's up to them on how much self esteem they have for themselves.Most viedo's and songs are like that,but there are other's in the same type of genre that is not. That is the exact opposite it's on what people buy and the artist they support.Sometimes the degrading videos had nothing to do with the words they are saying,maybe if we boycott against the degrading viedos and not the actual lyrics.

To stop hip hop artist from degrading women we as a consumer should let the artist's know how we feel about it. Yes people will buy their cd's because that's their favorite artist or that's a great beat. People do it all the time...however we probably should let it be known that all women aren't hoes, bitches or whores. The profanity in the lyrics is well..we should be a little more tolerant the artist have a hard time trying to pick the words that still go with the song but dosen't insult anyone. It's their job to sell music but not their choice in selecting the words used.

I beleive that the only way we as women can stop this is by us not disrespecting ourself. In the streets you hear women calling each others bitches, whores and sluts so other people think that it will be ok. Artist are usually looked up to by many people and by them saying these vulgar languages about women are really degrading, by us the cinsumers not buying there albums it will probably lead to them not using that type of language, and it will also probably lead to others not using it either.

Many of you have suggested to boycott buying the CDs and albums these artists advertise for sale. If you don't know, consumers have a lot of power. Community groups can march to demonstrate their disgust. Individuals can write their senators and councilmen and women to complain. As Jessica suggested women need to respect themselves and stop calling each other degrading names. This could also have an impact. Artists sing about what they experience in their neighborhood.

One way that I can help stop these artist from writing these vulgar language in their music about women is by not buying their CD's so they won't make any profit from their music. Also I can testify against their music so they can realize and stop what they are doing to women.

I do agree that rap artist today use disrepectful languages to describe many women.In reality it shouldnt be used.Although I feel that women today also degrade themselves and they give men a reason to call them bitches and whores. For example in one jaddakiss`s (a rap artist) refers to a female as a girl that gives HEAD, in his song he says " I know a girl named SUPER HEAD she give SUPER HEAD". I feel she deserves that comment because she give HEAD to all rap artists, if she would have respecting herself and her body she would not be labeled as a WHORE.

I strongly agree that many pop artists degrade women and use bad words in their languages which is very bad and ungodly. Most of them used the vulgar words because they think that people like it{they think it entertain them} but that's lie. Because the people especially children that you hear cursing learn it from them. The same to the degrading of women. it is very bad and disgusting { but the women that they used don't relly care about themselves because they do, the musician wouldn't have used them}. This disgusting thing young men to commit adultury and fornication because they think it right. So, what I will say is ythat parent should really take serious actions on this matter and never allowed their children to have anything to do with it. Also as a comsumer, I will never buy their producr again and make sure that I report it to the Mayor.

I agree with Shaakira half the way because women do put themselves in situations like that. There are other ways of getting a dollar its called getting a job, but some people are lazy or desperate and want to do the easiest and quickest thing. Their actions not only affect them but it gives a label for all women. The women in videos are supporting the idea of women being characterized in vulgar terms. This has become a trend and has been adapted by the public now we have to deal with there mistakes. But it's not only them the Men should have enough respect to not refer to them as that. They must have some sort of female family and wouldn't call them those names. They should take their own family into account and wonder if what they are doing might be affecting them. a way you can stop this is to stop endorsing it. There are many other artist out there that can satisfy your craving for music. You don't have to subdue yourself to those type of things live above it. But the only thing is how many people actually care about what they are saying?

Me as a costumer, would stop buying those type of CD's. Like seriously, whenever I happen to tune to a hip-hop video, I only see the music video degrade women. I would be wrong because not ALL hip-hop videos degrade women. Anyhow, I also blame the women on the videos. They shouldn't be doing that. They're setting a bad example to the women to look at their self ugly. This cause them to get surgecy and many other things

I agree with Shanelle.Many women do put themselfs in negative situaations like that.If women really need money they should get a real job,but many women are lazy or are trying to find the quickest way to making money.There action dont only effect themselfs but they also give a bad name to other women.The women in the vidoes support the idea of women being chaterized in negative terms. Yes this statement is correct. But, to be completly honest, I actually listen and enjoy this type of music!! Why, because i beleave every artist has a right to freely express themselves through thier lyrics. Women who are offended by theese messages are to balme. Only because they take theese comments to the head. They are just habbitivly placing themselves in the category of a woman with low self esteem. A woman who finds theese negative comments offensive thinks they are what is being discussed in the song.
