Introduction Of Dogs

  1. Dogs can be seen walking in parks, romping in backyards, wandering stray in search of food, napping in our living rooms, begging at our tables-just about everwhere in society.

  2. Throughout the world dogs has become part of our family. It is estimated that there are 150 members of cannie population in the world, members of the family Canidae. Most of them are domestic dogs, which belong to the species Canis familiaris.

  3. Even among Canis familiaris, there is great variablity, resulting in more than 300 breeds throughout the world. They also vary in function & other physical characteristics.Archaeologists have found evidence of dogs on Earth twenty five to thirty millon years ago.

Pack Behavior
  1. One of the things all canies commonly have is their instinctive behavior as pack animals.

  2. A pack is a group of animals that live together all dependent on one another for protection, companionship, mates , babysitters for the young, and hunting companions. Each pack has a leader, the most dominant male, and the other members of the pack are followers. Some of the followers rank higher than others, but none are as esteemed as the leader.

  3. The leader is probably the only male to mate, usally with the most dominant female. When they have pups, the female becomes the leader of the pack until the pups are old enough to travel & hunt with the pack.

  4. The most important reason for a pack is hunting.Canines are not fast enough to outrun some prey, so they have joined together circle the prey & then attack. After the kill the leader eats first, followed by other members of the pack in their hierarchiacl order. If some members have been seperated from the pack during hunting or play, the canines will howl to gather the pack together.

  5. The male leader remains so until he is unseated by a more dominant dog or dies.

Senses
  1. A dog uses its senses to help it to understand what's going on around it.Although dogs have the same kind of senses as people, the information they receive is often quite different.

  2. Dogs are well known for having a very keen sense of smell. They use this sense to discover detailed onformation about their environment. They can differentiate between the smells of various animals. They can smell drugs & other contraband through luggage. They also can distinguish the odors of various people & much more !

  3. Dogs are capable of distinguishing a wide sense of tastes & they have clear preferences for particular types of foods.A dog's tongue is used for lapping water, eating food, cleaning its body, licking wounds, feeling objects & expressing affection.

  4. Dogs can have very good hearing. They can differentiate similar sounds & even pick up ultrasonic vibraions, which of the hightest frequency. When asleep, all the sound messages from the environment still reach the dog's brain.

  5. Dogs are very good at seeing when things move. They are aware of the outline of objects & people & can see better at night.

  6. Touch is not so important to the daily survival of a dog, but it is at least equal to that of human beings.

Communication
  • Dogs use their powerful sense of smell in order to communicate with one another on a regular basis.Sometimes people think that dogs are simply barking at nothing but actuallly they are responding to the many faint sounds.A dog's bark is limited to perhaps 5 or 6 meaning, depending on the context when it is used.

  • However ,when they can see each other, dogs normally concentrate on using body language for their commuunication. For dogs, body language conveys more information than their limited vocal language.

  • Dogs also have rules about their interaction with other dogs.the canines of the world express themselves ina code of complex signs, preceptions & odors that allows them to understand each other. When they meet, they have the ritual of pricking up their ears, wagging their tails, sniffing & barking.

  • If a dog barks in response to a command, it is aprobably trying to show its dominance.Growling is more aggressive & should be taken as a warning to stop or keep your distance.

  • Dogs communicate through a variety of body signals-body stance, tail position, facial expression & ear placement.

Need For Play
  • In the wild, play is used by canines to learn the skills they need for their most important survial skill-hunting.Gearing up for roughhousing, racing with the kids, catching a ball & tugging on an object- these that in the wild would translate into stalking, chasing, attacking & finally tearing apart the prey.

  • Lack of play can cause aggression & maybe even phychological disturbances,so it's important to set aside time each day to play with your dog, even after it reaches adulthood.
