UNEXPECTED

Initially I received a rejection when I first applied for my home university SEP. Had given up the hope of spending a semester abroad when I came across another student exchange program on a school notice board by ASEF. I applied for it, and through the help of many people especially my lecturer and the administrators in NUS that I was able to get this scholarship to spend a semester in Italy. And why Italy…actually I got not much choice, or should say that I only have a choice and that was Bocconi because it was the only university in Europe that was offering courses to exchange students in English…that's why there's always this thought in my mind, maybe it was arranged for me to go Italy alone, and it's a blessing in disguise that I got the rejection from my faculty...and it's definitely unexpected after the first rejection. There's no certainties...the only thing that we can be certain is uncertainties

CRAZY

Till now, I still think that I was crazy to make the decision to go to Italy all alone. I speak no Italian at all and I am going to stay in Italy for a semester. Till now, sometimes I cannot really imagine that I actually boarded the plane. But I think I made the right decision...

UNFORGETTABLE

Not only because I enjoyed myself but there was also times that I breakdown and cried when I was there. Lessons were learned, mostly through the hard ways, but I have to admit that I gained a lot. And I will never forget the exciting adventures that I had when I went traveling with friends or alone, which a few times I was stranded and lost...

FRIENDS

Without friends, life in Milan will be very miserable. During my stay in Milan, I was very fortunate to have Edwin's help, especially during the beginning.

Life in Milan was made more colorful and exciting with friends from all over the world. Thou' we just know one another for a short while, but our friendships grew strongly and we couldn't bear the thought of leaving Milan by the end of the exchange.

MY ROOM @ SAN CARLO

I shared a room with Natalie, a girl from England. We each had a portion of the room seperated by a 3/4 wall, which we really appreciated because we had privacy but at the same time we had each other's company. But most important of all, I enjoyed the company of Katarina and Emilie who lived in the same residence as me...

TRAVELING

WIth the proximity, I definitely grab the chance to travel around Europe and around Italy.

There are a few places that I went to but didn't took pictures because I didn't have my camera with me. For example, I went to Switzerland (a day trip) and to Lake Como...it was a pity, but the beauty of these places will always remain in my memory...

BEING ALONE

Come to think of it, it's not such a bad thing... it's actually a hidden motivation to go out and seek more friends, and as a result, I made a lot of good friends during the exchange...and quite a few other exchange students that I met there were alone too, so I am not alone afterall...and definitely I become more sure of myself and more independent...

However, I hate traveling alone sometimes...especially the trips which I made to Venice & Paris...and when it's Winter, everything just feel so sad and depressing...in addition, I think i picked up the habit of mumbling to myself because that's what I did when I was traveling alone for long hours...

Last Updated...27 March 2002

I used up 17 rolls of films during my SEP, so that amounted to like 612 photographs. Will be putting more of them up on the web with more description and stories for each section...
