The Greening

The rains came to water the rabbit patch just as I
finished sprinkling the seeds. The Greening has
begun! Soon the garden will match the fields and
lawns that have given a different shade to everything,
like wearing green sunglasses. I saw someone
mowing their lawn yesterday on the way to the feed
mill. I quickly rolled down my window and slowed
the truck to catch a wiff of the first cutting,
Ummmm, smells like watermelon!

For my bunnies, I planted endive, chinese cabbage,
buttercrunch lettuce, kale and swiss chard so far. I'll
also transplant some iceberg lettuce seedlings, and I
hope to add some black-seeded simson leaf lettuce
and mustard greens to the same patch. The rabbits
don't mind sharing their patch with us, after all, I
plant it. But I confess, they get more of it than we do.

I didn't get the potatoes and onions planted though,
should have done that instead of the greens I
suppose. The weatherman says it's going to be
raining for two or three days, the greens should be
sprouting by then. Maybe the brassicas will be ready
to go outside too, cabbage, brocolli, cauliflower, and
brussel sprouts. Man Oh Man, I can't wait to see the
entire garden glowing with green!
