Before computers brought the mail right into the house people had to walk outside in the rain and the snow to retrieve it. Before I could afford a computer, I couldn't afford a mailbox. So I built one.
Dreaming of a log cabin, I designed it to look like my dream.
I used rough-cut hemlock for the walls, grooved on the
tablesaw to resemble logs. The door and octagon window above it
are thin cedar boards, inset and with a woodburning tool made to
look more like realistic along with the chimney which has a short
dowel glued and tacked on top.Dreams change and our plans for the real house don't resemble
the mailbox anymore but hey, I can always build a new mailbox
once the house is finished.
