date: 9-00-01 [haha] venue: Ojai Womens Club bands: Hit The Deck, Whatever It Takes, Diehard Youth, American Nightmare So I would be seeing AmericanNightmare for like the third time I think....... anywyas, which is pretty cool especially because they are from the east coast. And I would be seeing Hit The Deck for their first show at The Ojai Womens Club. So the show was starting up and there was a fair amount of people there, like maybe 150-200 kids. Pretty good turn-out, but not as good as last time AN came out to the west coast, but they brought out a good amount of people non-the less. So HitxthexDeckx was up first, and this would actually be the third time that I had seen these guys too, funny. I really really dig these guys' music a lot, and on top of that they are really neato guys to talk to and have a lot of good stuff to say, oh also Javier played drums for them for this show, I'm not sure if that is a permanent thing or not, but... So they started up and some other band played right before them for like 2 minutes, I'm nt really sure what that was about, but they started right after. They covered Chain of Strength, once again I forget which one, but they got some people singing a long and some others dancing, it was pretty cool. Then they played some of their other songs from their not yet recorded demo, but the songs that i think will be put on the demo..haha. Anyways, like I said before I am really into this band, since the first time I heard them, I was like damn, I like these guys! They bring the old school style hardcore/ punk with them, with a kind of east coast style, which is becoming more and more popular now I think. And if you didnt read my last show review of HTD, I talked a little bit about how this band talks about being Christians and is really open about it. Which is really kind of sticking their neck out there and telling people what they are all about as people. So I give them major props, because they are most likely going to yurn some people off for saying that, but then again they tell people to come up and talk to them and tell them what they believe and how they feel about things like that. Then they covered "Screaming at a wall", by Minor Threat. They had a good set over all, I was doing some dancing and a few other people were too, so for it being their first time playing there, I think they did good. Up next was WIT. I had seen them the night before in Ojai, but they were bad.... sorry guys, but you sounded horrible. So I was hopimg tonight that they woulb play better... my hopes were fulfilled! They played tremendously better, not the best I have ever seen but good. They played one of their new ones that I have heard a few times and everyone should be looking forward to their new stuff whenever that comes out because it is gonna rule. They havnt recorded or anything, they just have some new songs. Oh and they also have a new website, its kinda the same but its a little different so check it out, its at the same adress as the old one so go. After WIT was Diehard Youth! Yeah.......thats all I can say, I was really excited, especialy because they just recorde for a 7" thats gonna be out sometime soon, and also they just got on a really good record label, Throp Records. So they started up and everyone was into it, everyone! There was like 15 people up froont singing, everyone else was circle pitting, and there was tons of mosh and stagedive. It was a real fun time, they played a couple of their older songs, I dont know the names but they are good, and they hardly play them. And I guess Andy said it was their first show that they have never covered anything, I dont know but whatever. They played one of their new ones that is going to be on the 7" I think, and its good, you can get it from their website, so check it out. So they ruled like always, and they got one of their best responses ever, sssooo, good shit!! So after them was AN. From Boston Mass., I think one of the first shows that I went to at Ojai was the first time that I saw AN, so that was kinda funny, because I have seen the three times now, and every time I see them I seem to like them less and less. i dont know, maybe its just the dick heads that dance for them, that bring their east coast shit over here. Its hard to explain, I only have their first CD, I just havnt got the energy to get thir newest one. And I am not really into their hipe that much, because a lot of people say "oh yeah they are the best band in hardcore" and I think I am safe in saying that over 50% of hardcore kids really jock them hard, which is a huge amount. So that has kind of turned them off, and its not the bands fault, but thats kinda how I feel. And i think there is a lot more kids who feel like that too. So I watched a little of their set, and I was turned off again, so I left and went outside. anyways thats it late XXX |
