date: 11-16-01 venue: Wharehouse...Ventura bands: Within A Dream, The Hyperstone Heist, The Damage Done, Through It All I am going to try to keep this one short, cause I have been writing long ones latley. First off, there hadnt been a show for a while so I think everyone was all sicked up to go off. I was kind of dissapointed at the turn-out. There was only lke maybe 70 people there or so, I thought there was going to be more, especially because it was WAD's first show, and there was kind of a lot of hype...but whatever. So they played first, I wasnt sure what to expect because I had heard that they maybe werent ready to play, so I kind of came in to the show...wondering. This is a really hard review because all the guys in the band are my good friends and I know them all. But, they play kind of a....I dont know style of hardcore, its really hard to explain what they play, some faast catchy hardcore stuff and other technical hardcore stuff with some mosh parts...even though noone was moving their whole set. Their music was actually pretty good to listen to, but you had to listen closely to catch all the stuff. One complaint though.... Doug..you rule at drums, but I think you play double bass to much man, its cool for a few songs, but it seems like you play it all the time man...kick back. Their singer....Adam, fucking moves that shit, and actually has a good voice for the band...kinda metal/hardcore. When you can hear him.....halfway in between their set the mic broke and couldnt be fixed, so he just played without one...fuck ya!!! Needless to say, I was pleased with their performance on their first show, and will be lookin forward for them to mayeb mix in a little more mosh. Up next was The Hyperstoone Heist...my band...ha. So this was our second show ever and its our second drummer in two shows. Paul the drummer for As Beggings End played for us on like two days notice...he practiced the songs like three times, so it would be interesting to see what we were gonna sound like. We started out with our acoustic intro and went right into "Id rather be dead than found alive in S. Flordia" by A New Kind OF American Saint. Nobody knows the lyrics which is kind of a funny thing...cause people are supposed to know them on a cover, even funnier, I dont even know all the lyrics, I maybe know half...haha. But people were moshing sssoo thats good. We played our whole demo except a couple songs cause our drummer didnt know em. There was some people sing along and dancing...good times!!! At the end we attampted to cover "Tequila." We fucked it up..haha, we tryed to add fast parts and even a mosh at the end, but we are stupid turtles so we fucked it up. Up next was the band that I was really stoked to see at this show....The Damage Done, from San Luis Obispo CA, them came a long way to just play one show so I kind of wanted to show them a lot of support. Indeed I did, I dont know their lyrics, noone does but I was circle pitting and moshing along with only a couple other people...which kind of pissed me off, especially because they are such a good straight up hardcore band...it seems like noone even supports hardcore bands anymore unless they are the most talented or well known. Its okay to dance for a band that isnt that popular. But whatever...thats like a long story. I thought they were really good, and I thought their singer had some good stuff to say about things without getting annoying and shit you know? They played their songs from they demo which I picked up after the show. Through It All was up next, they played the same place like 2 or 3 months before, not much to say, except they were good, but not that many people were into it, I like them, but they aren't great. late XXX |
