bands: Diehard Youth, Striking Distance, Over My Dead Body, Bane venue: Ojai Womens Club How excited was I!! I got to see Bane and Diehard Youth in the same show, two of my favorite bands!! Not only them, but Stiking Distance from DC. who I have heard alot of good stuff about and was amped to see them too!! So Diehard Youth was up first, they have a new intro, its like rock' n' roll but still gets iyou in the mood to go nuts, I liked it. Then they went into... [i should write these right after the shows because i forget songs] But Terrnece broke his bass in the middle, it was gnarly. He got a replacement thatnkfully. Dieahrd Youth went on to play some new stuff which was cool, but I think they should play, "Lean on Me" and "Youth'R'Us" every show. Na, it was cool mixing in all the new ones, which everyone seemed to be stoked to hear, tons of people singalog, and lots of moshing. Up after them was Striking Distance from DC. They play a style of hardcore that is rare thse days around the west coast, really fast, pissed off, and in your face. The way hardcore was meant to be played!! Thay started up and kids were going nuts, tons of moshing and tons of sing-along. They got a better reastion than I had thought they were gonna get. Their singer was going pretty nut, which made the whole thing way way better. They played a long long set though, like 12 sons or more..I think they played 3 or 4 covers. I Know one was Minor Threat, but I cant remember the rest. Really really fun stuff, one of the bests bands I've seen in a while. After them was Over My Dead Body. I was really really exhausted, so I just stood in the merch room and watched. From what I could see, they got a great reaction. They mixed up all their old and new stuff, I myself like their okd stuff better!! Everyone was sing-alomg, and lots of stagedives and circle pit action!! Up last was Bane. I had planned to see them before Ojai, but I just couldnt do it. Much to my dissapointment. I can honestly say that I think Bane is the best band in hardcore all around right now, and I thihnk they have been for some time now. They are just so inspiring and really mesmorizing [spelling]. Their front man is one of the best too. He doesnt go crazy and he doesnt have the best voice. But it seems like everything he says when they play live in between songs is perfect, it just seems to be right, if that makes sense. And their lyrics are probably some of the best. Let alome the quality of their music. They started up, and I think there was about 300-350 kids there, from everywhere. They played "Reasons Not Rules" first to start a huge circle pit. Then they went into, "Count Me Out" to get everyone in the place singing-along. Throughout the whole set tons and tons of stagedives, there was like 60 kids up front singing-along, and everyone else was pointing fingers and going nuts. They played some songs from all three albums, all in all it was one of the best performances Ive seen!! late |
