venue: Ojai Womens Club date: 5-28-01 bands: BearTrap, Good Enough, Champion, Whatever It Takes The last time Champion played at The Ojai Womens Club I couldn't go, I was really bummed. There was no wat that I was going to miss them this time. I showed up late for the show , during the middle of Good Enoughs set, they were covering "Yound untill I die." Good choice. then they went into one of their new songs, which by the way their new recording is pretty damn good. Then they went into a CIV cover, I forgot the name of the song. Any ways they were pretty good. By suprise they wasn't really that many people there. But it was okay, because it seamed like all the people there were really into it, which rocked. Up next was Champion from Seattle, I was really stoked to see them. They set up and dedicated a little piece toi hardcore music of the past[memorial day]. They started out and everyone was going nuts, singing along and moshing it ruled. Champion was very greatful of all the people that showed up, which made it even better, because there wasn't a ton load of people there. In the middle of the set they dedicated a song to the NARD, fuck yeah. That really meant a lot, that a band from Seattle would acknowledge the Nard. They ended with a Chain of Strength cover, again I can't remember the song... but what can I do. Whatever It Takes was up next, and I was ready. They opened with that fast fucking intro, to get the crowd into it. Then they went into one of the old ones. They covered "Oxnard," which got a great crowd response, everyone was on stage singing along. I think it was the next sing or something there was a sick pile on on-stage, I can't remember during which song but, half of my body was on the stage and the other half of my body was off of the stage. I was in pain, but it was cool. theywent into "Who Moashes Hardest"... I practically fuckin died from moashing so hard. Whatever It Takes was really good that night for some reason they sounded fuckin great, they ended with "Two Words." ANd the show was over. I was talking to the guys from Champion after the show, and they are the coolest guys man I swear. If you didn't go to this show definently come and check them out, they are going to be coming back sometime in August. |
