Hi gang,
It looks like the AC evaporator is gone on my 95 850GLT. My buddy has had
to recharge the AC several times and feels this is what's wrong. Is this
very
hard to replace on my own? How much should I spend? Any other place I can
look?

Cut your own arm off, It would be less painful, than to do it on your own.
I would expect to pay around, $1000.

the only thing more painful than this repair was replacing the core on
my 745T !!
ps: pull out the service idiot light bulb while the dash is out !!
...or gnaw off your foot. That would also be less painful.
Most Volvo techs should be fairly adept at this by now. Independant Volvo
shops may do it for somewhat less than the dealer, but not much cheaper.
It's a
lot of work.

About $1050 at a local dealer here in Albany, NY, and that included a pollen
filter addition. The lowest price I have seem posted here on the BB is
an
independent shop for $900. Some have reported costs from dealers of $1500.
By the book, a tech does it in 8 to 9 hours. And then after practice, 4
to 5 hours.
My independent wouldn't do it because you can damage the dash cover when
taking the dash out, and that would make the job unprofitable. IMO, not
a
doityourself job; as already said, the dash has to come out. A few things
to
consider: some posters have reported some success with the "stop leak"
recharge products sold at Kmart and Walmart. If you go for the replacement,
"the accumulator" (a moisture gathering thingy) shoud probably also be
replaced. Also, while the dash is out, you may want to replace your instrument
bulbs.
