Bracket for child’s seat tether strap[850][96R]... posted by Chris

I am looking for the
bracket that mounts in the center behind and under the rear seat for a
95 – 97 850
wagon that the tether
strap from a child seat attaches to. I already have the one that mounts
to the
backside of the rear
seat for when the child seat is mounted behind the passenger or driver's
seat. I have
tried my local dealer,
but to no avail. Anyone got one and are willing to sell? Cheap!

Chris, this subject
came up about 2 week ago with a ton of input. I think we have all agreed
that there is
no difference in the
mounting hardware between the center and side seating positions. The center
attachment point is
far enough below the rear deck that the rather large looking hardware actually
fits.
My dealer was also
unaware that there were (or at least supposed to be) separate mounting
parts.
Hope this helps.

Chris,
So you are saying I
can use the bracket that is mounted on the backside of the seat and mount
this
instead to the rear
deck area? The brackets I have seen allow the tether strap to mount just
above the
rear deck cover (allowing
quick connection/removal). I just don't want jeopardize my 20 month old
son
by incorrectly mounting
the seat.

Chris,
Sorry, but there is
a difference. My 98 V70 came with an anchor kit (I'm in Canada, and all
new cars
sold here have had
to have teather anchors and attachment points since 1989). The kit consists
of a
bolt, a few washers,
and two anchors, one short, and one long. You use the short one if you're
installing
the seat in one of
the outboard positions, the long one if you're installing in the center.
The extra length
ensures that the part
that accepts the clip extends a few inches above the floor of the cargo
area. This
makes it easier to
install and remove the tether. You may be right that a side anchor can
be used in that
center spot (I haven't
checked for clearance), but since the seat has to be folded over in order
to reach
it, installing the
car seat would be more difficult than it needs to be.

shouldn't all the brackets
be the same regardless of seating position?
I havent dug into
it yet, but isn't the center position for the anchor underneath the cargo
cover area?

The bracket you use
for the center position is longer than those for the sides. This is so
that it extends
above the floor of
the cargo area for attachment.

Chris,
I have seen people attach the bracket to the actual rear deck in other
vehicles by drilling a hole into it,
but I'm not sure how safe that is. I think however that what Chris is saying
is that you can attach the
bracket that you have in the center position. The drawback that you have
with that is that access to that
bracket is not available for "quick connection/removal". Have a look at
my reply to his post above.

All of the teather anchors for the wagon are not the same. The middle one
(don't remember the part
#)has a length of webbing on it so it is not burried under the seat in
use; so you can attach and remove
the teather without having to folding the car's seat down. The outboard
anchors are the same though.
