Watch out for that Canadian black-ice

Good Morning,
I just visited the crash stories section of your site and thought I'd pass on my own.

In February of this year (2002) I spun my 1995  850 on black ice near Kingston, Canada.  Doing about 100 km/h I slammed into the concrete divider
head-on, and then rear-end as I spun through a sweeping right bend.

When the car came to rest, I had spun 540 and had hit concrete 3 times.  Despite the 'C' shape taken by the frame, all four doors opened
without a hitch.  It was after 2:00 am and the highway was deserted -so I checked for gas and oil leaks and drove the 13 km to the nearest exit.

Now, in my entire family about half our cars are Volvos of different ages -so when it came to looking for a new car, there wasn't much
of a choice to make.  Three weeks to the day after my crash I bought another 850, this time a 1996.

That crash was my fault, but it was good to know that if I'd had passengers, they wouldn't have had to pay for my mistake.

Feel free to post the story (with name) if you wish.

Yours,

         Doug Baumann
