How a failed water pump can destroy your engine...

An important note from Richard:

As an 850 owner who found out the hard way, a failed water pump can take the valve train with it.

The 850 water pump is driven by the back side of the timing belt.  I now have one instance of the water pump bearing seizing and breaking the timing belt. The valve train bent and it cost $4,000 CDN to put it all back together again, an expensive lesson.  The KM's on the car exceeded 300,000, so now my local shop is recommending replacing the pump along with the belt on 850's with more than 300,000 KM on them.
I suspect that S70's may have the same set up as the engine in my S70 seems identical to both of my 850 turbos.
