Leaking Headlight Washer System

Headlight Washer System [850][1994] ... posted by Mark B.  on Friday, 30 March 2001, at 9:49 a.m.

Here's an odd one for you techs out there...

Lately I've noticed on several occasions that there is a fluid leaking out of the
driver's side headlight washer nozzle. Normally I wouldn't give this even a
second thought, as I'd assume it was just windshield washer fluid.

However, I've looked at it a couple of times now, and it looks to me to be
antifreeze. It's a yellowish/green color, rather viscous, and it leaves a residue
                  on your fingers.

My question is this: How is it possible to get antifreeze into the windshield
washer system, such that it would leak out of just the driver's side headlight
washer nozzle?? There are no other visible leaks anywhere around the car, and
                  no puddles underneath.

Could this stuff be something other than antifreeze?

Is it possible someone might have accidentally connected a coolant overflow
line into the windshield washer system?? (I know, that sounds bizzare, but this
                  stuff is strange!)

                  Thanks in advance!

Mark B: Could that be URINE leaking out of that headlight washer assembly?
Sounds like your car is pissed off at you for some reason. Is it green or yellow?
Seriously, I believe the rubber hose where it is connected to the squirter
assembly near the wiper is loose, causing the washer fluid(which is basically
an antifreeze mixture, albeit not ethylene glycol)to seep/leak out. Check the
hose connection and make sure it is properly fitted to the assembly.

                  Regards,

I had been informed a coule of days ago that there is a recall on the S70 on this
subject matter. The service manager from the Volvo dealer that I take my cars
to, had mentioned that it would take no more than 5 minutes to do the recall.
