replacement of headlight glass bezel - S80
ok - not an 850/V/S70 but might be of relative interest...

replacement of headlight glass bezel[S80][1999]  joe -- Sunday, 14 October 2001, at 8:59 a.m.

my front drivers side headlight bexel/glass guard was hit and
i've taken the broken glass off.

i can't seem to get the new glass bezel on with out pulling out the
small wiper arm. i've removed the screws which hold in the headlight
assembly but it's not enough fot the assembly to come out.
the side directional was also removed.

the new rectangular shaped bezel glass came with a black gasket and
6 or so clips to hold the glass onto the headlightr assembly.

how do i get the head light assembly out of the front end.

please help!

thanks
joe

Believe it or not, the front bumper has to be partially removed, not completely but at least the side where you're replacing the headlamp lens.

Start by removing the upper plastic clips. Then drill off the 4 plastic headed rivets inside the wheelwell (have new rivets and a rivet gun handy for re-installation). Remove headlamp wiper arm the cover below the headlamp and the sidemarker lamp. Remove the TS lamp (push down on release from top, next to headlamp). Remove the 2 plug covers in the front lower area of the bumper and remove the bolts (4 total I think?), then the bumper will slide forward enough to remove either the other hidden screws for the headlamp assembly itself or you should then be able to unclip the lens assembly still in place.

Joe,

If you look carefully at the wiper arm, you can see where it pivots to lift the wiper away from the headlamp glass for cleaning. There is a cover directly over the end of the wiper motor shaft that pivots at the same point. Just pull on the cover at the end farthest away from the wiper arm, and it will lift to reveal a nut that retains the wiper arm to the motor shaft. You might want to mark the position on the shaft with nail polish before removing the nut, so you can replace it in the same location. Otherwise the wipers will not park in the proper location.

If these instructions are confusing, I can send you digital images showing the cover on and off.
