Early in her career, Caroline Gillmer co-produced, wrote, directed and starred in two original productions of 'Gershwin' and 'the twenties and all that jazz' for theatre, television and on an international tour. Both shows continue to be in demand.
Her career has since included major television roles in the international co-productions of Seven Deadly sins, Brides of Christ, the Magistrate, Cyclone Tracey and All the Rivers Run.
She was writer producer and star of Simply Irresistible, produced with the Sydney Theatre and Playbox companies for 1993 Melbourne International Festival of the Arts and created the role of Cheryl stark in Neighbours.
Caroline has won major awards throughout her career, the Television Society's Penguin for Best Supporting Actress for Cyclone Tracy, the Green Rooms Best supporting actress for the musical Nine and Best actress nomination for Summer shadows. She received AFI, Tokyo Film Festival, and Sydney Critics Circle nomination for Best Actress and won the age Female of the year award in 1996 for her role in the Australian film Hotel Sorrento.
In 1997 she appeared in the film Paws and in the Melbourne Theatre Company production of Sylvia, and recently re-created the role for the Sydney Theatre company's production. Her recent film Muggers she worked on co-currently with her performance in Chicago. After leaving Chicago Caroline worked with the Melbourne Theatre Company in their 2000 production of Sondheims Company.
