Hey Troops, I have a photo/picto map (Colour airphoto map gridded and showing contours like a conventional map) which I sanitised on leaving Vietnam by rubbing off the location of all the towers. A sample of it is attached to give you an idea. The other is a plan of the base showing what I can recall.
With your help I would like to mark it back up and get it displayed on a few sites for all to see. It may also be possible to send you copies.....
What I need to know is as follows;
The first tower in each sector was 3, eg, Juliet 3. Juliet and all the other 2s being SAT teams.....Agree?
OK, working from the Beach gate (Delta 2 alpha) the towers ran from D3 to the Bomb Dump gate which was Delta 12......easy one.
Heading south along the western fence we had Echo Sector adjacent the Bomb Dump. I can recall Echo 8, were there more? Can you recall a gap in the wire we Aussies went thru to get out to "Midway"? Going to Hill 68 we went thru at Delta 12.
Golf sector was in the centre of the western perimeter. Golf three was atop the big hill, Nui Dat, in the middle of the base so the perimeter posts started with Golf 4 and I recall a Golf 10. Were there more than that?
Hotel 8 was right in the southwest corner of the base and I recall Hotel 9 for sure, was there a Hotel 10...or more? There was a gap in the fence adjacent the Board of Survey dump just ouside the fence in the Golf Hotel area. Anyone pinpoint its loc?
Remember the gate out to the Aussie and Safeside rifle ranges? What was its rough loc?
Just to keep you thinging, Juliet sector was overlooking the paddy fields to the west. It ran from the Beach gate south to the army Log area. I definately recall Hotel 12 but believe there was a 13 and 14. Can you confirm?
Alpha sector ran from the Main Gate toward the west. That is all I can recall. Remember anything?
Bravo 3 must have been close to the south end of the airstrip. Can you recall, likewise I seem to recall Bravo 5 was the "Strip" gate which also lead to Luong Tri village. Is that right, or was it Bravo 6. What was the last Bravo tower?
Finally can you give me a location on base for Security Control.
Hope you can help out, even in the smallest way....anything you recall will be greatly appreciated and I will let you know the end result, including sites the map will appear on and whether I can send you a copy of the actual map.......................I have a serving troop seems to believe he could get a mass (100plus) copied. I believe he is talking out of what he sits on.......but...........
Anyway, hope you can help
Take care Brothers
