THE A.D.G

An early morning rise
The silent look of fatigued eyes

It was another night on a cold hard bed
But for him it was home a place to lay his head

All thew sleepy days of walking all the miles underneath his feet
He is tired, cold & hungry and will not accept defeat

For theirs is a job that is there to be done
And for the silent few it is priority No 1

Thoughts of home escape their minds
For it is the need for duty ton which their heart binds

These men will work by day and by night
No matter what the job so long as it is done right

They are all men of the highest order they are the best they can be
These are men who bare the title A.D.G

Each one swears an oath to defend the eagles nest
And only when the weak are safe will they rest

They are critizied and misunderstood
So for this Reason they have a brotherhood

Because he is unique, hand delivered straight from god
He can perform all duties it comes with
the Job

So remember next time you look beyond those trees
That warm safe happy feeling you get its thanks to the A.D.G'S

Great and endearing is all i can say
Thanks Mate the POM

A Trip to Vungers
Flash - Back to 1970-71
Mick Djula, Trev Turner and Marty Felsman plus of course the POM enroute to
Vungers for a short attachment.
The boys really looked revved up here lookin' at all the happy faces.
Mind you riding inside the bowells of a R.A.A.F. "Wallaby Airlines" Caribou didn't help to much, but sure beat the shit outta walking.

"Come on Pom piss off with that friggen camera will ya"
I was kinda gettin' the impression that the boys would have liked to have shoved that camera where the sun don't shine.
Am I right Right Fellas??

" More Ravin' on from the POM"
.

How come all my stories start with Well Fellas?

Well this one will be no different as i'll make a start now to add another verse or two from your old mate the POM.
Well Fellas ( shit there's those bloody words again ) I'll start off by making a statement now that I'm proud of What i've been and that means an ADGie i just kinda hope that you guys will bear with me in the growth of OUR web site I'll do my best although at times sitting on the fence is a little uncomfortable, its a bit of a pain in the rear you know what i mean. Sometimes you might consider that the old POM is a couple of sheep short of a flock but's that just me, I kinda enjoy being stuck in this Time warp 1968-74 as it contains a lot of memories that bring me great pleasure, its more so now after thirty years or more that i look back and realize where some of my life's great and funniest memories where made in your company.

Looking back there have been times especially whilst overseas things didn't always go the way we would have liked sometimes the memories are more than unpleasant and I'm sure we all have had our fair share of these, but thats the past and thats where they belong IN THE PAST.
Now that i have that bit of congestion off my chest back to our site i hope you fellas don't mind me adding bits and pieces of those Years i had the pleasure of your comardrie and for a change i'll add words to describe some of the better moments of my venture to Vietnam, no doubt you guys visited these places too, so although most are pic's of local areas around Phan-Rang and Vungers or maybe the odd trip here and there i'll try my best to show the happier side of life in Uncle Ho's Funny Country.

"Pom walks with a kinda strange wobble".

Kinda hope that the old memory serves again with distinction and doesn't fail at a critical time or place but be warned like POM can only speak in simple terms i lack the shiny polish of higher education Note 1, must have spent to much time wagging school or chasing sheilas (chicks for the lesser educated or Girls for the pure and slow) Note 2. didn't do me much good though all it got me was a rock in the back of my head thrown by a local lady( from the Metropolis of Greater Greta) who was to become more famous as time progessed" Sandy Nelson" a famous stripper and pin-up from the Cross in Sydney in the late sixties, I'm sure that particular projectile altered may prospects on a glorious future (can i claim compo?) Its again strange how the wheels of life rotate for on last Anzac Day that particular lady i met again more than 36 years after the rock to the back of the head incidence. And being the real nice Bloke that I'AM, i forgave her and let her feel the lump on my head (get your minds outta the gutter) the POM's not like that I'm pure as the driven slush.
McArthur Park "My cake is melting in the Rain"
Strange sounds to some or just sounds of the sixties and early seventies to us, please enjoy these Rock'n'Roll midi clips there the best that i can do. I recall on ADGie course at Amberley especially when off and carrying out a bit of cleaning up or something along those lines( # brain snap flash back starting to recall#) thats right throwing clothing items into the old concrete mixer style washing machines a ritual that required the playing of the radio to cover those god only knows sounds of washing in motion did it get your hips a swingin' sorry i'm not that type. Anyway the song that really got me all reved up was Mc Arthurs Park you know the one where your cake is melting in the rain and you can't take it any more , Well fellas I found it up on the Web somewhere and its the background music to what your reading now, I'll pick other tunes from my folder to add to other pages as time progresses and if you don't like the music just blame that guy with a few sheep missing outta the top paddock.

"The Pom gets "Baptised"
Well fellas as strange as it sounds the pom has been in deep water before I recall at beautiful downtown Siberia the ADGie hut area at Amberley on a cold and frostie evening that the Pom was raised Shoulder high by his fellow comrades of 10 course ( note the Pom struggled and fought bravely as you know Pom's hate water let alone soap) and taken by many many brave and overpowering fellow ADGie to be and dumped into the cess pool. Shit after getting out i couldn't get enough soap can't remember if i keep my mouth shut during this dunkin' or not, I suppose thats why I'm always dribbling shit, right fellas?
Suckin' the Fumes of Big Boy's Toys
Where's this page goin' not even off ADGie course will i ever survive? This bit recounts you thought i was gonna say recalls didn't ya? Wrong . Anyway whilest on course a few of us started messing with model aircraft, yes and that includes the famous Tex Bryson as well flying our models to the cheers and applause of the boys especially after a less than text book landing, anyway the jecking and aplause only lifted our shattered spirits and out would come aircraft no2 , Now remember that our models were control line where the owner of such machine would stand and manlipulate the controls during take-off and circular patterns then after saying a few prays hopefully land the bloody thing well there's another pattern of procedures that goes like this, Take -off allow aircraft ( Lethal Weapon) to gather speed then apply corrections to flight path meaning the controller would stray off centre trying to achieve the task of applying massive damage to those poor unfortunte souls who had been jerring moments earlier, Sadly we missed those persons and landed intact and awaited another occasion. As well they never did find the Pom's cache of highly volitile fuel stored in secret inside the hut mind you they looked pretty hard especially on Panic Day. Tex Bryson on the other hand was to continue with the modelling progressing to a four engined Hercules that dropped all sorts of cargo i think that Tex lost control whilst flying this one at Williamtown and spiralled into the deck. Alitude sickness Am i right Tex ?

"Trained Killers with Hand-Bags" !!
Huh!! you might say but this is what happened as many of the 10 course boys will verify i suppose this story should be forgotten but a young Chris Flynn ( now Deceased ) off 10 Course with a few of boys went into the local at Toowomba to help celebrate the completion of our ADGie Course and having earned the tag of trained Killers proceeded to make merry telling wild stories of deeds above and beyond human expectations ( Bullshitting ADGie style is still a current problem i believe gets even worse with age ). When one of the patrons of the merry establishment who was sitting in very close proxcimetry to Chris, Tied of listening, reached out and with a god fearing and body destroying blow"........
...... Flattened Him with HER Handbag!!"......................... Exit one ADGie.

Foot note; Please no more Letter Bombs Fellas

"Nothin' like a night at the Opera"

The Phan - Rang Opera House.
Many an ADGie spent time here improvin' his knowledge of all things great and wonderful if you didn't mind the same show 7 days running, notice also the full surround Hi-fidelity sound system and the Starlight lighting system used to great effect by 2Sqn.
This ampithreatre also ran a lot of live theatre entertainment, i recall that when the" Gordon Boyd Show" called in to entertain us it was performed in one of the 2Sqn hangers down on the flight line at Phan-Rang.
I recall a very beautiful and young Lorraine Desmond Starring in the Concert.

More from the Achieves
Phan - Rang 1970-71

Do you wanna go this way?
A very young Bobby Loftus and Neil Tyne dicussing the finer points of Pommie navigation.
Ya stand up on a big bloody rock like this and look, and hopefully nobody will notice us.

Well bugger you I'll stay here by myself then.
