Correct Address for Bob Buick
. Corrected Email Address..bobbuick.net.au
G'day fella I am Bob Buick, my signature block is below and Diana Dirou of the 9 Sqn Assn suggested I contact
you to find out more about a bloke named Robert K Milligan. I was in Vietnam 66-67 with 6RAR. The following is
a cut from an email I sent to Bob Grandin who was with 9 Sqn when I was in country, it should explain what
this email is all about.

"Mate, could you recall anything about Robert K Mulligan (#2516 born Oct 1927) who visited Viet Nam on a
number of occasions claiming that;
1) he was crew on the resupply to us at Long Tan, we know that's bullshit,
2) he was a door-gunner with 9 Sqn no dates give
The Viet Vet Federation of Laidley who are asking for this information and advise that he was a parachute
packer
(Army) the last couple of years of the WWII. He then served in Korea (RAAF) and continued in the RAAF retiring
as a WO. It seems that he was involved with pilot safety, chute packing and may have been a DI (Ground Defence
Instructor).
His VN service was all visits, possibly as a Sgt, 6-12 Nov 65, 14-21 Aug 66 (This was when he was at Long
Tan), 17-21 Oct 66, 07-20 Apr 67, 08-11 May 67, 22-23 Aug 67, 23 Oct -03 Nov 67, and 11-11 Jan 68.
He is wearing the full set of Viet Nam medals yet never posted to a unit, maybe 35 Sqn (1965) but that was for
6
days. Many veterans in the Gatton/Laidley area are pissed off because he is wearing medals that he is not
entitled
to and nobody knows how to get the info from the RAAF Comd.
Mate this is important can you please expedite.
regards
Bob

Update 2, 11-6-2001
Bob, thats a neat trick, marking sites like that but:
1... G4 is incorrect, sorry, I did that.It should be where the E for EXIT (if stretched) would touch the perimeter.
2... Where you show G8 that should be E8(my scrappy E confused for a G), maybe E9.......checking on that.
3 ...D4 should be D3.(My cock up again)
4... D3 is Juliet 14 and D2 is Juliet 12.(Oops, again on both. Sorry to stuff you about)
5 ...There are no towers with a number 2. Delta 2 as all the other 2s are, is a SAT team in a jeep
6... Beach exit is Delta 2 alpha
7 ...If you look at the maingate from offbase, the area to the right was the "Log area" (Army /logistics) and lastly,
8 ...Watchdog Control was not on top of the hill. G3 was up there along with some radio relay gear but Security Control Centre was down in the 'built up" area. I have my spies working on it.
I have had a few requests for tower locations around the perimeter of Phan-Rang
if you know for certain there position then please let us know and i post on site a detailed map.
Needed 1. Strip Gate
2. Range Area
3.Beach Gate
4. Location of the 7/17th Air Cavalry
Plus Tower Positions and anything else you might deam relevent.
The Phan-Rang Taxi Service
This Photo shows the 7/17th Air Cavalry based at Phan-Rang 70-71 many a day trip to where ever to take in not only the local scenery, but to see what else was going on in this country, there was the occasional trip up to Da Lat in the central highlands to sus out the beautiful round eyed French Vietnamese girls.
Da Lat at one stage was a resort town for the French and showed in the buildings around town indead a beautiful place.
Managed trips to places like Tusong Mau a fire support base down the coast from Phan Rang this trip was an eye opener the fire power in these bases was awrsome kinda glad it was on our side.
I also have a couple of photo's taken by myself showing at least a dozen choppers in formation and on their way to another Fire Base but cannot recall the bases name but what a magic feeling choppers everywhere.
I will find this photo at a later date if i still have it, it also has the Cam Loc Temple in the background.
A Day out at Nui - Dat with the POM
Whilst attached to 1 OSU at Vung-Tau i had the pleasure of a day out with the boys of 9 Sqn and accompanied them to Luscombe Field at Nui-Dat.
The Smile on my face was short lived when enroute when the Pom thought that we had had a power failure but by the looks on the gunners face the Pom had shit himself for nothing as it was a practice drill and the Pom was caught with dirty pants again and i recall that the boys let a few rockets go much to their pleasure with the Pom again wearing the small bits of fuse wire or whatever that was blown back into the cabin, i also noticed the gunners grinning, very funny Guys the POM now has scars to remind him of this little escapade.
Might anyone recall this occasion as i cannot recall the Gunner this would have been 70-71.
