Thanks for the quick reply POM, it's nice to have contact with someone from the past. I was a section leader at Willy town when you were there...you used to drive a little Cortina with wide back wheels if I remember correctly....I had a green EH similar to Terry Jacksons. I used to hang around with Ian Peacock Ray Starkie and Alan Brazil a fair bit. I think we all went on that exercise to Shoalwater bay in 1969 and then later on to Darwin for a big one. After that, I was posted to Pearce as the NCOic. Anyway, that may help you get the cobwebs out....See ya!
Howdy Pom,
Bet you can't put a face to this name......been a real long time since I saw any of the old faces, anyway, I was just poking around on the old internet and I came across this amazing website. Boy. does this bring back memories or what? Lots of water under the bridge since number 2ADG Course.....I see my name on the course roll and later on the nominal roll for Ubon [I did two tours there...I was sharing a small house off-base with Jan Kirkwood and Ken Lovell when Jan was burnt to death in it] during the second tour we were all posted over to Vung Tau, but I don't see my name on the nominal roll for Vungers. Later on, I had a short tour up at Phan Rang.
I have a quick question about honours and awards which you may be able to answer......on web page I see a cluster of three ribbons.........I have the two Vietnam ones which we all got just after we got back, but what is the third one?
Anyway, enough about me, hope all is going well with you and yours, and hope to hear back whenever.
Regards,
Barry JAVENS.
Gday Barry,
Yep you made me scratch the old noggin a bit and your right i can't place your face, but all the same its nice to have you email us , i'm sure that theres a few out there that would love to recall old times with you , so settle back there could be some emails coming your way ( hope so ).
The medals are 1 the Australian Active Service Medal. 2 Australian Service Medal 3 Vietnam Star,
maybe you can apply for the Active Service Medal .
Anyway its nice to catch up with you.
The POM.
Fair dinken, mate...I was with A Troop when we moved to Phan Rang, then went back to Pleiku for "temporary duty"--great memory of trading you guys a couple of bottles of Jack Daniels for a garbage can full of Fosters & Victoria, then helping each other drink all of both...still have a Digger hat I traded with someone for my Cav Stetson, which was the only one I ever had that fit right...I think your unit helped us eat a deer we killed near Dalat then butchered & cooked out there in our 'back 40' where the Air Force made us live
