Good to see that the site is up and running. I am retired and living in Canberra still. I am working for the Vietnam Veterans Federation here in Canberra as a volunteer Advocate and Welfare Officer should anyone need to be assisted with pensions etc. Their website site is vvfact@tpg.com.au and mine appears on this message. Your site is to be commended for the content and presentation. As an ex ADG/Gunner/Crewman/Loadmaster I was impressed and very glad to be able to trace some of the old crowds addresses. I look forward to seeing some of you at the next 9 Squadron reunion.
Regards,
JJ

Attached is picture four, filed with Tex and Jim for this edition of the newsletter. Depicting:
The widow Ainslie, is pictured at Dallas Dommett, Andy McNeill and Jeff Wright's table, which demonstrated the binoculars, laser range finder and UPS gear. More than one was heard to ask, what ever happened to the gentle art of judging distance, prismatic compass back-bearings, resections and 8 figure grid references mit: protractor ivorines on 1:25,000 scale maps? About the only thing recognisable on the table was their plastic orienteering compass.
Donald George Washington (read: Smithers), is shown at Ian McAllister and Andy Hathaway's table which reintroduced the more familiar 84 mm MRAAW Charlie Gutsache (read: Carl Gustaff), 12 gauge pump action shot gun (rumour control had chained to the table, for fear of Don wanting to pinch it and taking it home), 9mm Browning / Glok automatic pistols and M 72 Light Anti-tank Weapon.
All in all, we believe the lads handled themselves pretty well, with their explinations on all exhibits and there was probably no need for the presence of GRDEFOs to respond to questions out of left field, by the old and bold.
Again, we would like the officers and lads identified.
Regards
Gilli

Picture number three of the four originally sent to Tex and Jim for inclusion in the next newsletter depicts: Guests of Honour at the Dedication Day, the widow Ainslie (Bennett), Mister Charles Cugley and the lads of 1AFDS. Ainslie's former husband Wing Commander Gordon Bennett, founded 7 National Service Training Unit at RAAF Pearce in the 1950s and is regarded as the father of the modern ADG mustering. Charles served as a SNCO RAAF Guard on Morotai and Labuan during World War II. He trained originally at RAAF Pearce in the very early 1940s. The lads pictured we are sad to say are unidentified and would like help identifying them.
The table behind was manned by Shane Leaney, Matt Brown and Ian McAllister on the day. Which exhibited the 5.56 mm Minimi LMG, 5.56 mm M16A2 mit: 40 mm M203 Granade Launcher, 7.62 mm MAG 58 GPMG and more interestingly the 5.56 mm Styre mit very neat: 40 mm Granade Launching Attachment. GRDEFOs Jeremy Barraclough and Mark Bailey were on hand we suspect to help with questions out of left field by the old and bold. There was no sign of a C2 Sight or MAG 58 tripod but was assured they exist. It was here, the very welcome news of Adam West’s commissioning was recieved.

Gilli
