AUSTRALIAN-FRENCH MEMORANDUM STRENGTHENS WARTIME COMMEMORATION

Australia and France today affirmed their commitment to remember and honour
their shared service and sacrifice during two world wars, with the signing
of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Australian Government and the
French Republic.

The "Memorandum of Understanding related to cooper
-ation in the field of the shared history of the World
Wars of the twentieth century" was signed in Paris by
the Australian Ministerfor Veterans' Affairs, Mrs Danna
Vale, and the French Secretary of State for Veterans'
Affairs, M Hamlaoui Mekachera.

"Thousands of Australians lie at rest in war cemeteries
in France.  As a nation, Australia takes great pride in
those who died on French battlefields, in the skies and
at sea in defence of the democratic values
that our two nations share," Mrs Vale said.

"France has a duty of memory vis-à-vis its own children who fought and were
sacrificed during the two world conflicts. But recognition is equally due to
France's Australian allies who died in the defence of our liberty," M
Mekachera said.

Under the Memorandum of Understanding, the Australian and French Governments
will seek to increase broad community understanding and recognition of the
shared history of the two world wars, with a focus on educating younger
generations by all available means, including the dissemination of
information to schools.

"Our Governments will affirm our commitment to honouring our war dead,
facilitating access to historic and commemorative sites and the conservation
and maintenance of our
shared wartime heritage," M Mekachera said.

"In line with that commitment, Australia and France will undertake to
promote tourism to commemorative and historical sites in both countries.  We
also will encourage links between our ex-service organisations in order to
unite French and Australian veterans as 'comrades-in-arms' of the world
wars," Mrs Vale said.

Responsibility for implementing the Memorandum of Understanding will be
given to the Australian Government Department of Veterans' Affairs and the
archive heritage section of the French Veterans' Affairs Department.

"This week we mark 85 years since the Armistice that ended World War I.

"With this Memorandum of Understanding, Australia and France affirm the
strong bonds between our countries and agree to ensure that the memory of
those who served in the world wars of the twentieth century continues to be
honoured," the Ministers said.

SEVEN DEGREES OF BLONDE

FIRST DEGREE

A married couple were asleep when the phone rang at 2 in the morning.
The wife (undoubtedly blonde), picked up the phone, listened a moment
and said, "How should I know, that's 200 miles from here!" and hung up.

The husband said, "Who was that?"

The wife said, "I don't know, some woman wanting to know if the coast
is clear.

SECOND DEGREE

Two blondes are walking down the street. One notices a compact on the
sidewalk and leans down to pick it up. She opens it, looks in the round
mirror and says, "Hmm, this person looks familiar."

The second blonde says,"Here, let me see!" So the first blonde hands her
the compact. The second one looks in the mirror and says, "You dummy,
it's me!"

THIRD DEGREE

A blonde suspects her boyfriend of cheating on her, so she goes out and
buys a gun. She goes to his apartment unexpectedly and when she opens
the door she finds him in the arms of a redhead.

Well, the blonde is really angry. She opens her purse to take out the gun, and as she does so, she is overcome with grief.  She takes the gun and puts it to her head.

The boyfriend yells, "No, honey, don't do it!!!"

The blonde replies, "Shut up, you're next!"

FOURTH DEGREE

A blonde was bragging about her knowledge of state capitals. She
proudly says, "Go ahead, ask me, I know all of them."

A friend says, "OK, what's the capital of Arkansas?"

The blonde replies, "Oh, that's easy.....A."

FIFTH DEGREE

Q. What did the blonde ask her doctor when he told her she was
pregnant?

A. "Is it mine?"

SIXTH DEGREE

Bambi, a blonde in her fourth year as a UCLA freshman, sat in her US
government class.

The professor asked Bambi if she knew what Roe vs. Wade was about.

Bambi pondered the question then finally said, "That was the decision
George Washington had to make before he crossed the Delaware."

SEVENTH DEGREE

Returning home from work, a blonde was shocked to find her house
ransacked and burglarized. She telephoned the police at once and
reported the crime.

The police dispatcher broadcast the call on the radio, and a K-9 unit,
patrolling nearby was the first to respond. As the K-9 Officer arrives and approaches the house with his dog on a leash, the blonde ran out on the porch, then shuddered at the sight of the Officer and his dog, then sat down on the steps.

Putting her face in her hands, she moaned, "I come home to find all my
possessions stolen....I call the police for help, and what do they do...they send me a BLIND policeman."

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

A Bonus Funny:

A woman was walking along a creek and saw a blonde walking along the
other bank.

She called over to the blonde, "Hey, how do I cross over to the other side?".

The blonde replied, "You ARE on the other side!
Funny Facts About Seniors

I'm the life of the party ... even if it lasts until
8 p.m.

I'm usually interested in going home before
I get to where I am going.

I'm awake many hours before my body
allows me to get up.

I'm smiling all the time because I can't hear a thing
you're saying.

I'm very good at telling stories; over and
over and over and over...

I'm aware that other people's grandchildren are not
as cute as mine.

I'm very good at opening childproof caps ...
with a hammer.

I'm so cared for -- long term care, eye care,
private care, dental care.

I'm not grouchy, I just don't like traffic, waiting,
crowds, politicians.

I'm sure everything I can't find is in a secure place.

I'm wrinkled, saggy, lumpy, and that's just my left leg.

I'm having trouble remembering simple words like ...

I'm a walking storeroom of facts ... I've just lost the key to the storeroom door.

I'm realizing that aging is not for wimps.

I'm sure they are making adults much younger these days,
and when did they let kids become policemen.

I'm wondering, if you're only as old as you feel, how could I be alive at 150?
