Director's Programme Notes:

"The year was 1968 and the Tribal Love Rock Musical HAIR opened at the Biltmore Theatre, U.S.A. With the assassinations of Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr, university campus riots and mounting anti-war protests, the world stage was set for a musical which challenged America's commitment in Vietnam, shattering the dead ends of conventionality.

"With this production of HAIR, we have worked towards capturing the initial intent and emotion of that 1968 production, and the edge has been sharpened with a new book revised in 1995 which presents a world of free choice, love, and the coming of a new astrological chapter where the sign of Aquarius will fill the world with aspiration and faith.

"We bring you tonight a time capsule, a documentary of the 1960s. A musical which in its time had enormous social impact and which thirty years later still has as its creed honesty, love and peace - values which surely should continue to guide mankind through a timeless pattern of evolution."

Sue Belsham - Director
