Kurt Browning

 His History...

       Kurt Browning was born on June 18th, 1966 in Alberta. His parents are Dewey (Arnold) and Neva Browning, and he has two older siblings. (A brother Wade and a sister Dena.) Kurt started skating at the age of three when his father (Dewey) flooded their backyard to make a rink. The Caroline Arena was built when he was six years old. Kurt intended on being a hockey player and only went into figure skating to get the extra ice time. He made his skating debut (at an ice carnival) wearing a skunk costume. Kurt is a 4-time World Champion and 4-time Canadian Champion.(1989,'90,'91 and '93)

       He turned professional in 1994 and this will be his 14th year skating with Stars on Ice. He is also a 3-time Canadian and World Professional Champion, and he has twice won the US Pro Classic and was the winner of the Inagural Canadian Open Championship. Kurt is also a 3-time Olympian (1988,1992 & 1994), and was given the privilege of carrying the Canadian Flag into Opening Ceremonies in Lillehammer, Norway in 1994. Kurt was inducted into the Canadian Hall of Fame in 1993.

       On June 19, 1998, Mr. Browning received the Jacques Favart Trophy, the highest honor awarded by the International Skating Union, and received a star on "Canada's Walk of Fame in June 2001, after co-hosting the ceremonies the previous year.

       He has recently begun a career as a choreographer with "Stars On Ice,” as well as contributing to programs for Olympic Champions, Tara Lipinski, Jamie Sale & David Pelletier; as well as 2002 & 2003 World Bronze Medalist, Takeshi Honda.

 

       He is currently living in Toronto with his wife Sonia Rodriguez who is a Principal Dancer in the National Ballet of Canada. Kurt started dating Sonia in 1992 and purposed to her in 1995 during a Stars on Ice performance and they were married on June 30, 1996. They have a son named Gabriel who was born July 12,2003.
