Railtrack Station Regeneration Project.

Hamworthy.

Geoffrey Osborne Limited have been employed to work alongside Railtrack carrying out essential maintenance work at Hamworthy station. The work is planned to take place from 24th January 2000 until 31 March 2000. I have spoken to Paul Martins of Osborne Rail who has confirmed that maintenance work will include, replacement of coping and refurbishment of the up platform canopy. Some of this work is being carried out at night to avoid interfering with train services and provide safety for the labour force, Repainting and general maintenance will also be carried out as part of this project.

Monday 20th March 2000:

The section of canopy that overhangs the track has been repainted. This work was carried out during the early hours of the morning to avoid any disruption of services and ensure the safety of the workforce.

Thursday 6th April 2000:

At approximately 11 o'clock last night (05/04/2000) Hamworthy station became a hive of activity, `Safety Covers' were placed along a section of the live rails and a `temporary footbridge' was rapidly erected across the track from the Up to Down platforms adjacent to the platform level entrance gate from Junction Road to the Up platform. This allowed easy direct access to the Down platform for the workforce and machinery to resurface a section of the Down platform.

Friday 7th April 2000:

The regeneration project is apparently completed, the portable toilet, temporary fencing and signs were removed this morning. The down platform is not as lumpy as before and the station building's canopy over the Up platform is looking brighter. The lighting in the underpass and some of the existing station lighting has been repaired/replaced.

Still to be done.

The rain still cascades down the station building wall from broken guttering & rainwater pipes below the canopy which cannot be doing the station building any good. No work has been done inside the main station building, The walls & ceilings are still cracking & peeling and will require refurbishment or at least a repaint sometime soon. The `Help & Information Point' is still out of order due to the destruction caused by mindless vandals.
