The pnumatic regulator on a cocker lowers the input pressure into a low psi (30-90 PSI) so the ram and 3 way can cycle. The stock reg is non adjustable and it is pretty large. It is a decent reg, but it is very hard to adjust and for some people, they need their own settings. But for most people, the stock reg is fine. Both the Rock and Micro Rock are made by Glen Palmer. The rock line are basically indestructable. I have yet to see or heard of one breaking. This does not mean it will never break, but the chances are slim and if it does break, then Palmer Pursuit shop will fix it for you for free. The differences between the regular rock and the micro rock is the pressure relief valve. On the old rocks, back in the co2 days, co2 sometimes needed some extra room to expand, so it worked. But now most people with cockers have nitro, so the large rock is not needed due to the consistant pressures. The micro rocks come in black and chrome and are very easy to install. All you do is take out the 3-way hose adn unscrew the reg. Then you unscrew the nipple from the rock and screw it in then screw the inpple in. (Don't forget to use teflon tape so there are no leaks) Attach the 3-way hose to the nipple and put the cap back on and you are set. The benefits of these regulators is and adjustable cocking pressure so if you change the main springs you can lower the pressure to reduce ball chopping. The micro rock is about $50 in black and around $7 more for chrome. The knob is optional shown in the picture above. You have to pay 5 dollars extra. (The knobs purpose is so you can adjust it without a wrench. These are great additions to any cocker but should not be the first upgrade because it really does not affect performance that much. Most upgrades on cockers are purely cosmetic and this is an upgrade you should do after the 45 frame and the barrel.
