Chapter 11, Deceived by Appearances
Kioku walked up
the temple steps. Why was he here? To see the old man. He seemed almost
to well... How could he help him? Kioku opened the door and stepped inside.
The old man was standing just inside. "Come in Come in. I have been waiting
for you."
Kioku walked up
to the old man. "I understand that you.."
"I know why you
have come." The old man interrupted. "But first we must eat, come good
food." Kioku followed the old man. "Yuuchirou, fix us some tea."
With Rei gone and Kioku nowhere to be found the girls meet at Usagi's house. But with Mamoru sitting the silent like a mourner at a funeral, well nobody felt much like talking. They just sat there in silence thinking of what the future might bring. There silent reverence was broken by the sound of the front door opening and someone walking towards Usagi's room. Usagi's father must be home, the girls thought. Funny he was home early and lately he had been coming home later and later. Each time looking more tired and more distraught. The footsteps quietly move towards the room, the door opens and there stands Jadeite. The girls gasp as Mamoru stand between him and Usagi. "I have come to return my services to his majesty."
Kioku and Rei's
Grandfather sit drinking there tea. They are now on there third cup and
Kioku is getting a little agitated. "You still have told me nothing that
will help me."
"Patience." the
old man said. "We have plenty of time for that. Now you have gotten to
know Rei's friends pretty well haven't you?"
"I guess I have."
"Good maybe you
could convince one of the to spend a little time with me." The old guy
broke out into uncontrolled laughter.
"Why did I even
come here!" Kioku practically through down his tea cup. "I should have
known you couldn't help me you crazy old man!" Kioku got up and started
to leave.
"I cannot teach
him, the boy has no patience."
Kioku stopped at
this.
"He will learn
patience." The voice of the dead king of light came softly like a gentle
breeze.
"Hmm" The old man
responded "Reckless is he like Galaxia."
The voice came
again "Galaxia meant well, and she recovered from her fall."
Kioku now stood
in shock. Who was this man?
"He is too old,
yes too old to begin the training."
"Beryl was older
yet you trained her."
"Yes" the old man
acknowledged. "But look at what happened to her."
"You know perfectly
well it was the dragons venom that slowly locked away her soul."
"No!" the old man
almost yelled at the spirit of the dead king. "I trained my last student
in the way over a thousand years ago. I will keep my own council on who
is to be trained."
"But he must be
trained, on this all depends."
"Very well," with
this Rei's Grandfather turned to Kioku. "You I will train, but from now
on you know nothing, all that you knew before is no longer true. You must
unlearn what you have learned."
Kioku could only
slowly nod.
Rei walked towards
her grandfather's temple. She was tired it had been a long walk. She had
to leave the dragon long before she reached civilization.
She walked up the
steps and into the courtyard only to see Kioku was in a handstand as he
slowly lifted his left arm. Rei's Grandfather sat on his foot. He continued
by slowly lifting each finger until he supported his whole weight on his
thumb. He than lifted that as he floated there upside-down. Rei gasped
in disbelief. "So you’re home!" The old guy jumped down from Kioku's foot.
He went over to Rei. "Now its time for a little fun" He picked up several
rocks and hurled them at amazing speed towards Kioku. Kioku spun out of
the way than drew his katana sword. Focusing energy in the blade he cut
several of the rocks in half. Others flew by through the space he used
to occupy while others stopped and fell like they had hit an invisible
wall.
Rei's grandfather
nodded obviously pleased. He grabbed Rei's bag and took the Crystal. "Grandfather
NO!" Rei yelled.
The old man paid
no attention and threw it towards Kioku. Kioku caught it and it slowly
sank into his body.
"I had better go
see about the others." Rei stammered
"They are with
Endymion and Serenity."
"Usagi is awake!"
Rei almost yelled. "Wait how did you know?"
"She is not yet
awakened, and the rest I will tell you later. It will come as a great shock
to you."
Rei left with many
unsettling thoughts spinning around in her head.
