Sailor Moon Awakening

Chapter 2, Links from the Past

Swords flash and shouts escape into the darkness. A couple of shots are fired as the rowdy group ranging in age from 15 to 22 stagger down the dark ally. Their clothes are torn, most carry weapons, and all of them have the same dark scrap of cloth tied around their foreheads. They continue on, one throws an empty bottle against the side of a nearby building.
"Hey look at him," another yells to the rest. They all draw their weapons. Swords, bats, guns, knifes, and more almost shine in the moonlight.
The dark figure just stands there. "Such energy, such eagerness to fight, there perfect. You will join me."
"Join you ha," one snarls. "We have twenty people here and you’re alone!"
Evil laughter breaks the calm of the night. The dark mans eyes flash as a black portal opens behind him. "You will follow me." He then turns and walks into the portal, all twenty follow him.

Back on the ship the Moon passes between the ship and the Earth. "You have done well Komotte."
"Thank you master." Komotte is kneeling in the center of the room.
"Your earlier defeat still troubles me." With this a dark figure in a black hooded cloak rises from his seat at the far side of the room. His face is hidden except for his mouth and jaw. He clenches his teeth before turning towards Komotte. "You will find out more about these Girls, and him. There are probably others also, learn If there are." The dark master turns to face the window. "I have seen him before, but how?"

At the Hikari Dojo all the girls are working out, even Usagi. Mamoru walks in to take a peek. Evidently Usagi has told him about it. Mako is sparing with Kioku, while Rei and Minako are destroying a large punching bag. Ami is reading a book about using leverage rather than strength in a fight, while Usagi is attacking another punching bag. Usagi sees Mamoru and waves at him. "Usako look o..." His warning comes too late; Usagi turns just in time for the punching bag to hit her in the face. Mamoru rushes over and picks her up off the floor.
"Never turn your back." Kioku scolds from across the room; Makoto standing behind him decides to make his point even clearer as she attacks him from behind. Kioku simply sidesteps and grabs her arm before she falls over. "Or at least don't loose sense of your opponent."
Kioku grins at Mako as laughter is heard at the back of the room.  "Just like her father. Always trying to catch you off guard." Master Hikari steps forward still laughing. Mako just looks at the old man, extremely puzzled. "Yes Mr. Kino was one of my most promising students." Master Hikari suddenly looks sad. He was almost like a son to me.

-Flashback-
A five-year-old Mako is standing against a wall watching her father sparing with an old man. The old man is surprisingly quick, and strands of blond hair can still be seen in his beard. A young boy that is about 10 years old is standing on the opposite wall. His head is bowed and his brown hair hangs down into his eyes so you can't see them. The two men stop fighting and start laughing. The old guy walks over and hoists Mako up on his shoulder, she starts laughing as she reaches over and gives her dad a hug. Mr. Kino looks over at the boy. The old man tries to explain. "He'll be all right, it’s tough on him both of his parents, my son and his wife, died when that train derailed two months ago.

"I remember you now!" Mako exclaims. The old guy just keeps laughing. Kioku meets Mako's gaze and knows what she is thinking. An instant bond is formed from knowing they have had the same experience.
Mamoru frowns he also knows what they are thinking, and thinks of the parents he has no memory of. The frown turns to a smile as he looks down at Usagi who is in his arms. "I have all the family I need right here." his smile grows even more at that thought.

Usagi and Mamoru are walking down the street hand in hand, the other girls following not to far behind. "Should we really be following them?"
Mako seems bothered. "I mean don't those two want to be alone?"
Rei gives her a cold stare. "Until we know for certain what is happening here, we have to protect them. That guy that attacked us last week might come back, and who knows what he's really up to."

Back at the Dojo Kioku grabs his head in pain, falls over and passes out.
-Flashback-
A young 15-year-old boy with long unkempt brown hair, torn clothes, and a dirty face, runs down the street carrying a sword in his right hand, and a loaf of bread under his left arm. A man is running after him yelling, "Stop thief." The boy ducks into an ally and disappears.
The loaf of bread is half gone as the boy walks down a broad street. He stops as he passes the palace. The grounds are beautiful and covered with flowers, and a group of ten-year-old girls are playing not that far off.
"There you are, you little thief!" the man that was chasing him before suddenly grabs the young boy’s arm.
He manages to get free and panics, he ends up running towards the palace before he trips. With nowhere else to go he draws his sword. The man doesn't take any notice and keeps walking towards the boy, until he feels a tug on his shirt. One of the girls looks up at him. She actually is taller than her friends and not much shorter than the boy. "What's the mater?" her voice is soft but concerned.
"Nothing is wrong he just didn't pay for that loaf of bread he's got there." "Oh here." the girl gives the man enough money for ten loafs of bread. All the man can do is mutter his thanks and walk off. "You look hungry." the girl turns to the boy. "Oh my name is Jupiter, come on I'll get you something to eat." Little Jupiter grabs the boy's hand and drags him off to the palace.

Back in space.
"The training is going well. Many of them have only begun to realize there own power." The cloaked master slowly walks away from the window. "They will do for now. In time my dark armies will regain there strength, and..." he pauses. "What is this!" he turns back to the window. "Such power I sense perhaps a battle awaits us after all. How fortunate I will again be able to show my true power." Evil laughter fills the room and spills out into space.

Kioku wakes up in a daze. "I know those girls! But from where, or when?" He staggers off.
Usagi and Mamoru are sitting on a bench in the park. The other girls are not far off. In the distance screams are heard, as four men dressed in black with black cloth tied around their forehead run out of a nearby store with large sacks over there shoulders. The thieves then start randomly shooting energy attacks into crowds of people.
The girls and Mamoru duck behind some bushes and transform. "For randomly causing harm to these innocent people I will not forgive you. I am Sailor Moon on behalf of the Moon I will punish you."
The four launch their attacks at Sailor Moon. Two are blocked by Tux's cane the other two by a flaming sword. The four just laugh and disappear.
"Beware this enemy they will attack anybody anywhere. They create fear so they can feed off it. The energy given off by fear is strong and they grow more powerful every day. This will be a battle not easily won." The mysterious white senshi turns to leave.
"Wait." Jupiter calls out. "Not that I'm complaining but, why are you helping us?"
"Long ago, though you don't remember it, you helped me, and I will be forever in your debt, besides" with this he turns to Moon, "one does not break a promise given to your mother." with that he disappeared.
The inner senshi and Tuxedo Kamen just stand there. "You know he does seem a little familiar." Tux frowns trying to remember.
