STUDENT DRESS CODE
  Students shall be dressed in their respective uniform (refer to “Approved Uniform” pg. iii) and groomed in a manner that is clean, neat, and that will not be a health or safety hazard to themselves or others.
  The following specific provisions shall apply to Ringgold Middle School:
1. Shirt and blouse tails must be worn inside jeans or skirts.
2. Long overcoats (during warm weather), bandannas and headgear (hats, caps, etc.) are prohibited.
3. Earrings or studs for boys are prohibited.
4. Footwear shall be worn.  Shoes with metal taps or noise-making devices and shower shoes (thongs) are not permitted.
5. The school district prohibits the use of excessive jewelry.  Any jewelry worn to school is at the parents’ own risk.  Jewelry that posses a threat to any individual is prohibited.
6. Hair should be neat, clean, and well groomed.  Boys’ hair length is not to extend below the lobe of the ear.  Boys are not permitted to wear ponytails or duck tails.
7. Beards and mustaches are not allowed.
8. Skirts more than 3 inches above the knee when the student is in a normal, upright sitting position are prohibited.
THE SCHOOL RESERVES THE RIGHT TO ASK A STUDENT TO CHANGE CLOTHING IF IT VIOLATES THE ABOVE DRESS CODE OR IS INAPPROPRIATE OR DISTRACTING.

                                          
Physical Education Athletic DressCode
Students who are enrolled in physical education will be required to be properly dressed for physical activity.  The requirement of proper attire will ensure safety and address health concerns.  PE attire will include the following:
*  Dark colored shorts (preferably red)
*  Light colored shirt

PROMOTION AND RETENTION POLICY
To be promoted from one grade to the next, the student must obtain a final grade of 70 or above on 3 of the 5 content areas (writing and reading will be combined).  Policy EIE (local)

GRADING SYSTEM: (Academic Achievement – Policy EIA)
   A = 90 – 100       B = 89 – 80      C = 79 – 75      D = 74 – 70      F = Below 70 (failing)
A grade of 50 shall be recorded for any numerical grade below 50 for any of the six-weeks of any semester.

                                                     
GRADING POLICY
Each semester is composed of 3 six-weeks reporting periods.
1.  The six-weeks grade will be determined as follows:
     A.  Class work, homework, class participation, notebooks, folders, quizzes,
           tests/exams, projects, etc. shall have the value of 75% or ¾ of the six-weeks
           grade.  The teacher shall determine the weight given to each of the preceding
           categories and inform the students of the value of each one at the beginning
           of the semester.
       B. Unit examinations shall have a value of 25% or ¼ of the grade.
C.  A minimum of 2 grades per week, excluding the unit examination grade,
      will be recorded for each student in each course.
1. The semester grade will be the average of the 3 six-weeks grades.

NOTE:  · Progress reports will be sent to parents after the end the 3rd week of every six-weeks.
             · Reports will be given out to parents or students one week after the end of the six-weeks.

CLASS WORK POLICY
Class work is independent practice given in conjunction with the class lessons.  It is the student’s responsibility to ask the teacher for missed assignments.  Students are allowed to make up work provided they have an excused absence. Students with unexcused absences, shall be given a recorded grade of 50, unless the teacher(s) allow for additional make-up work.

                                                 
HOME WORK POLICY
Homework assignments are given for the purpose of extending lessons and for additional practice.  It is the student’s responsibility to ask the teacher for the assignments whenever the student does not attend class.  NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED UNLESS PRIOR APPROVAL IS GIVEN BY THE TEACHER.  (Prior approval means BEFORE the due date).
1. If prior approval is given, then no points will be deducted for the late work.  However, if the student fails to meet either the original or the extended deadline a 50 will be recorded.
2. If a student is absent on the due date, it is the responsibility of the student to submit the particular assignment the day he/she returns to class; otherwise, a 50 will be recorded.
3. The teacher may determine that the student, because of extenuating circumstances, may merit an extension of time; however, this consideration is not mandatory and is left to the discretion of the teacher.
4. Each cluster may provide a homework schedule if needed.
