For FAIRNESS to all, these rules are STRICTLY ENFORCED. Cars and racers who do not comply with the rules WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO RACE. 1. The Cub should make as much of his car as possible. 2. You must use the kit that is provided to you by the Pack. (official BSA derby car) 3. DO NOT buy a "pinewood derby car" from a craft store or hobby shop. Regardless of any signs they post, THEY ARE NOT OFFICIAL at our Pack. 4. You must use the axles (nails) and wheels provided in the kit. 5. You may sand off burrs and smooth the wheel surface, but you can not change the SHAPE of the wheels. 6. No solid axles permitted, use the nails that came in the BSA kit you were provided. 7. Lubricants - Apply NO lubricants in any way! We will apply graphite to each wheel before the 1st race. 8. The "slots" on the bottom side of the wooden block are guides for the axles (to keep them squared and at the proper height for the car to clear the track). Do not fill the slot with glue or putty. We must be be able to see BOTH ENDS of the nail to ensure solid axles are not being used. 9. You are premitted to lengthen the wheelbase, but you must CUT A NEW SLOT and install the axle (nail) in the slot. (see rule #8) 10. You may not intentionally raise a wheel so that it fails to make contact with the track. Car inspector's decision is final. 11. Cars may not exceed 5 ounces (digital scale used at Pack Weigh-In will determine the official weight). 12. Cars may not exceed the length of the original pine block. 13. Cars must roll free and clear on the track. Be careful if mounting weights on the underside of the car.. 14. No moving parts other than the wheels. Shifting weights, internal ball bearings, Mercury, and the like are not permitted. 15. ALL CARS must be presented before 8 PM on MARCH 11 (official weigh in) to ensure no one gets extra time or build, or change their car's appearance after seeing other cars. Cars that are not registered at weigh-in will not race on race day. 16. Once cars are registered at weigh-in, they are placed under lock & key until race day. ONLY the boys may handle their cards, and THEIR CAR ONLY! Imagine the horror of some one dropping your car and breaking a wheel off. 17. The decisions of the line judge(s) are FINAL. 18. The scoring method will be uniform to all racers. If you do not understand the scoring, you may discuss it with a uniformed leader AFTER all races are complete. Please do not interrupt the scorekeepers. 19. Parents will set the good example for behavior. 20. Except for rest room breaks ALL PEOPLE are to remain in the Gym for the duration of the entire derby. We will call your name TWICE when it is your time to race. If you do not respond, you will be skipped and your score will be effected as we will race the heat without you. We must keep the event moving along. 21. At the end of the day, all results are final. Remember, this is for FUN. 22. At the end of the day, score sheets will be DESTROYED. When it's over, it's over. |
