April is the Month of the Military Child, and in recognition of this, Navy Child Care Resource & Referral kicks off the Week of the Young Child with a fun-filled day in Balboa Park for families. This FREE event will feature activities and entertainment for children and resource booths with information for parents. Bring a picnic lunch (no food will be available for sale at this event) and enjoy a day of arts & crafts, storytelling, street performers, and more.For more information, call (619) 521-6747.And don't forget the MWR Children's Spring Fling at Admiral Baker on Saturday, April 24, from 1000 - 1300. When Lt. Cmdr. Rhonda Fleming-Makell, 41, ends her terminal leave June 30, she will step into American history books as the first African-American woman to retire as a commissioned officer in the Coast Guard's 214-year history....Full StoryDON'T FORGET:
Don't forget to register for the Navy's 18th Coronado Bay Bridge Run/Walk on May 23, and make sure you list your affiliation as "COAST GUARD." The military group - including friends and families - with the largest number of entrants wins a unique prize! You can run, jog, walk - any way you and your feet can get across the bridge and have as much fun as you can along the way. Click here for event info and online registration. RESOURCE OF THE WEEK:
The Exceptional Family Member Program invites you to join them for the upcoming STOMP Workshop at MCRD on Monday, 17 May 2004.
STOMP (Specialized Training of Military Parents) is a nationally recognized source of information for military families who have children and young adults with disabilities, and for the professionals working with them. The workshop is being funded by Headquarters Marine Corps. This is an opportunity for those families and professionals to gain knowledge and information regarding how to work together effectively to promote success for the child.
The conference will include presentations on laws and regulations regarding education of students with disabilities (IDEA PL 105-17 Reauthorized), Communication Strategies, SSI, Wills and Guardianship, TRICARE, and Medicaid.
STOMP is a federally funded Parent Training and Information Center serving military families and professionals regardless of their geographic location.
