WILLIAM
I. RAMIREZ
2005 - Present
In only five
(5) months' stay as Officer-in-Charge and now Chairman,
Ramirez, with the help of First Gentleman Jose Miguel
Arroyo brokered the signing of the RP-China Sports
Agreement in which China vowed to help in the training of
Filipino athletes in 14 focus sports as we vie for the
2005 SEAG's overall championship, and in the long run, the
country's first Olympic gold medal in Beijing in 2008.
Recently,
Chairman Ramirez also facilitated the transfer of national
athletes to a modern Athletes' Dormitory in Philsports
which was also re-launched to serve as the national
training institute for athletes, coaches, and trainors. He
further reinstated Class C athletes' monthly stipends and
food allowances, now bringing the number of PSC-funded
athletes to 1,033 besides some 243 coaches, trainors and
masseurs.
The agency's
first Chairman from Mindanao has been tasked by the
President to re-engineer and reorganize the PSC's
Organizational Structure, including the streamlining of
excess employees, while improving the agency's services to
the athletes.
With the
Philippines' hosting of the 23rd SEA Games on 27 November
to 05 December 2005, Ramirez is working to refurbish SEAG
venues and facilities with no additional budget for the
purpose.
