The
Pearl of Africa
"Uganda is truly the pearl of Africa" Winston Churchill
wrote in 1907 visitting the beautiful country. And indeed,
Uganda is a blessed country astride the equator in East
Africa with a rich and ever-fertile vegetation, a beautiful,
green, vulcanic plateau between the Rwenzori Mountains and
Lake Victoria of 236,580 square kilometres. After a
tumultous period of wars following the independence in 1962
peace and stability came back under Yoweri Museveni and the
National Resistance Movement and so visitors have come
rediscovering this brilliant country, its unique birdlife,
the fascinating mountain gorillas or the beautiful and well
looked after national parks.
The Capital City is Kampala. Uganda has a
population of 17 Million. There are about 30
indigenous languages spoken throughout the
country. The official language is English and
taught in almost all the schools. People are
friendly, helpful and proud of their country
they have rebuilt after the war had found its
end. Uganda has a great history going far back
in past with four once very powerful kingdoms.
There is a lot to be seen on that behalf if you
are intersted in history.
