About Pagan Pride Canada

What Does a Local Coordinator Do?

At a minimum, we ask each Local Coordinator to coordinate a public ritual, a charity and/or food drive, and networking event, with perhaps merchants from the local Pagan and Non-Pagan community. You may also choose to expand your venue with workshops, music, and other festival activities. This event must be media friendly and designed to provide positive public relations for the Pagan community as a whole. Local Coordinators must be "out of the broom closet", and be prepared to do outreach and interaction with the non-Pagan community. Just remember that the first purpose of Pagan Pride is to provide a public area where Pagans and non-Pagans can interact for educational and community-building purposes.

Responsibilties Of A Local Coordinator

  • To coordinate a public event including at least a charity drive and Autumn Equinox observation, and to hold this event on or near the Fall Equinox (or in the month of September)
  • To be the individual, or member of a group of individuals, responsible for arranging the event. The Local Coordinator(s) will serve as a local point of contact for other local volunteers, report progress reports back to the Pagan Pride mailing list, provide a post-event summary, and provide archive copies of any media coverage.
  • To check in regularly with your Regional Coordinator, to keep him/her updated about what's happening in your area.
  • To publicize the event locally by requesting support of local Pagan groups, inviting local media to cover the event, welcoming those not of our faith to celebrate with us, and meeting any protests or harassment with reason and attempts to educate.
  • To agree with a code of conduct, simply stating that while we are not pretending to conform to society in every way, we also are not interested in attempting to shock anyone, or using outrageous means to draw attention to us, and to agree to the Event Policies. (In other words, no one's going to care if you have a nose ring, but we really don't want you dancing skyclad in your local grocery store!) Remember that an article written about you and your event might be the only information some people get about Paganism. What impression do you want to leave them? Therefore, we ask that each local coordinator be reasonably articulate, appear intelligent, and agree to follow the laws of his or her jurisdiction, including but not limited to nudity, the carrying of knives or swords, and assembly permits. Pagan Pride Canada and The Pagan Pride Project will not be responsible for events held in violation of local laws.
